HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST: MHA DOES NOT CARE FOR BANGLA WORKER RIGHTS

0
0

<Facebook post by Teo Soh Lung>

Arrests of these 27 Bangladeshi workers were made between 16 Nov and 1 Dec 2015. It took MHA more than two months to inform Singaporeans and the world about their disappearances under our notorious Internal Security Act (ISA).

My question is Why? Is it because Singapore's human rights record will be up for review at the United Nations on 27 Jan 2016 and MHA is obliged to disclose these arrests, imprisonment, deportations and imprisonment now? We will never know if there are similar cases before this instance.

What was the length of detention before repatriation is not disclosed by the MHA. Clearly, this shows that MHA does not give any regard to these migrant workers.

Note also that the 27th Bangladeshi who is now serving a prison sentence for attempting to leave by illegal means is described as not a member of the group of 26 already deported in para 2. However in para 7, he is described as a "fellow group member".

The inconsistency shows that MHA does not care about migrant workers who are helpless in Singapore. We do not know if the embassy was informed of their arrests and what are their views on this serious matter.

WHY STUDENTS IN PRIVATE SCHOOL NOT ALLOWED TO USE CPF TO PAY SCHOOL FEES?

0

<Image used for illustration purposes only>

Dear Editors,

Why can't local students studying in private institution such as Kaplan use CPF to pay school fees?

CPF monies come from citizens' hard earn money. Government should allow citizens who are pursuing higher education to use their CPF to pay the school fees since government love to promote lifelong learning and upgrading of skills.

Since the launch of the SkillsFuture credits, many citizens are overwhelmed but what kind of courses could citizens use for when training providers are charging courses at high price?

If governments could allow citizens to use certain portion of their CPF money to pay for higher education school fees, this will even encourage more citizens to upgrade themselves. Agree?

From your experience, what kind of courses could you attend by using the$500 SkillsFuture Credit? Shouldn't it be name as Skills Short Term Future credits?

ALLEGED YISHUN CAT MURDERER OUT ON BAIL; ANOTHER CAT FOUND DEAD

0
0

Another dead cat has been found Yishun. The cat was found lying on the walkway next to the petrol kiosk near block 732 Yishun Ave 5.

This comes after the alleged serial cat killer Lee WaiLeong was released on bail. Did the alleged cat killer strike again, or is this the work of another copy cat killer?

Some cat lovers have expressed their disappointment at the weak enforcement laws for animal abusers, while others have questioned if such perpetrators deserve sympathy and help from certain MPs who have gone out to find lawyers to fight their case pro bono.

To date, more than 20 cats have been found dead in Yishun over the past few months. Do you think the police is treating this case seriously? Or do you think the cat killer(s) will continue to strike again?

Dear Editors,

22nd Jan 2016 @ 8.30am. The small public carpark at Pepys Road (along Pasir Panjang Road) is usually very crowded in the morning due to the morning breakfast crowd at the coffeeshop.

This selfish idiot got the cheek to stand there & chop a lot for more than 10 mins, waiting for his friend (Lexus SGR 57J) to come, turning away other motorists who intend to park.

Really do not understand how come such people exists & this really make an ugly Singapore!

SINGAPOREAN WOMAN WANTS TO SHIFT HOUSE COZ HER MAID GOT BANGLA BF

Dear A.S.S,

I am very shocked to realise that we had 27 Bangladeshi terrorists construction workers in our midst.

My maid has a Bangladeshi boyfriend. I have been pretty ok with it coz I know everyone needs company. Now, I am not sure.

My maid has friends who also have Bangladeshi boyfriends. A few months ago, when she showed me a picture of their outing, most of the Bangladeshis have grown beards. My maid also asked me if it is normal for Bangladeshi men to grow beards. I replied that I wasn't sure and I brushed it off.

Now when I think about it, I am not sure of what I should do.

They know where me and my family live. Should we relocate to a neighbourhood with lesser Banglas, no dorms etc?

ALLOW MEDISHIELD LIFE TO PAY FOR ELDERLY S'POREAN'S EYE OPERATIONS

0
0

Dear ASS Editors,

At the fourth Healthcare Infrastructure Technology and Engineering conference, Minister of State for Health Chee Hong Tat spoke of the necessity for Singapore to do all it can to prevent rapid healthcare costs ( refer to The Straits Times report, ‘Prevent rapid rise in healthcare costs’; Wednesday.

I am glad that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is fully aware that rising medical costs is a valid concern of our ageing population, and hopefully the assurance from the newly appointed Minister of State for Health Chee Hong Tat to ensure that healthcare remains affordable will give our seniors much more peace of mind.

Today, another report in the same newspaper highlights how Health Minster Gan Kim Yong wants to make healthcare affordable in the report “Keeping S’pore healthy and boosting standards”; Thursday.

Although Medishield Life has been implemented to help Singaporeans with their medical bills, there is still more to be done to provide better coverage for our seniors who have little savings, cannot afford to purchase outriders and have no income.

Poor vision or vision loss among the elderly is a major healthcare problem and many of our seniors will require cataract operations once they hit 60 and beyond. The most common cause of vision loss among our elderly includes macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract and diabetic retinopathy.

A recent check with Tan Tock Seng Hospital revealed to my surprise that Medishield Life does not pay a single cent for cataract operations which cost $950 per eye.

To our seniors who have no steady monthly income and live all alone with no family support, $950 is a huge sum. Every month, with the cost of living skyrocketing, a senior in this group needs at least $400 a month for his/her meals and to pay the conservancy charges and PUB which are also going up. So to these seniors even a medical bill of $400 is a burden.

Our ministers and MPs will not be able to feel the pinch of rising medical costs because they are very well paid. But these politicians who were elected by the very people, who now require support, must never lose touch of the ground.

In any event, what is the point of paying Medishield Life year in and year out, in the years ahead when our seniors who contributed much to Singapore’s economic growth cannot have any peace of mind when vision is so important to their well being in their twilight years? More so when this group has little Medisave in their CPF accounts, which they will undoubtedly require for other ailments which is bound to come about due to old age. .

To this end, I appeal to MOH to relook at the payouts for Medishield Life on eye operations for seniors commencing from the age of 60.

MY NEW UNHYGIENIC MAID URINATED INTO MY JUICE BLENDER, CLAIMS SHE VERY URGENT

0
0

<Facebook post by KimChi>

Maid alert! Since I'm taking a day off tomorrow, i decide to publish this little note to warn people about my ex-maid from Philippine and my continuous mistakes to keep her in the house for so long.

Name: Cindy (Cecilia / CJ / Cristine Joy) Peralta Vasquez - shes born in 1991 and is a divorcee with a 6 yo baby girl.

I was desperately in need of a maid since my MIL has been helping me taking care of my baby and the house all by herself long enough. It exhausted her and i totally understand, so i decided to get "help".

After a few rounds of considering new & transferred maid, i decided to pass a candidate which my mil considered as "look a bit "dumb" (sorry for my choice of word) hence my be more obedient" and chose a more bubbly one who went her way to try carry my baby around and sing songs for him during our interview, and as a new maid, she agreed to 1 off day per month only. And here are my constant mistakes:

- The agency said she was actually a new maid, the ex employer wanted to hire her and wait 5 weeks to bring her to singapore, then suddenly decided to continue with her previous maid -> this one became transferred maid. A bit fishy isnt it? I only realized it now

- 1st off day - she went out at 10am and back at 2am of the next day. I didnt really scold her but gave her a warning and a curfew of 9:30pm instead. for the next 2 consecutive weeks, she reached home at 11:30pm or 10:30pm saying that she overslept at her cousins' house or waiting for her sis to finish the batch of cake then bring home (which she didnt cuz she was scared that wait a while longer i would be mad at her) - well. I closed one eye

- Ignore my MIL complaints about her hygiene standards. Well, my MIL got OCD about cleanliness >> even i am far away from her standard. But i also "gave" some leeway to Cindy because she was originated from a rural place so naturally she wouldnt be able to meet our standard immed. To me, my most priority is my baby and she seemed to pay more attention when it came to baby's food or handling baby >> i closed 1 eye

- She always got reasons to get out of the house quite late at night - top up card / cousin died >> need to inform sis because sis phone cannot be contacted / brother died / etc etc. I gave in.

(now, maybe up to this point, u might think that i'm quite dumb. Really!!!!! No experience in handling a subordinate. Also a bit hesitate to "offend" her because i was worried that she would put in on my precious baby. Should have just fired her oredi right?)

- I found a hotel card in her bag. The next day, it's gone. Rumour has it that she has a bf outside living temp in a hotel.

- Always asked for loan because she got no salary for the first 5 mths >> only got the compensation from 3 off days she sacrified to work >> asked for 2 months at 1 go, saying that she needed to send back to her family. But she always got "pocket $ to buy snacks", my MIL said she saw her got a new batch of clothes.

I wanted to fire her at this point but still hanging on to her for a while because i was expediting on the schooling for my son sothat we could become "independent" of help and my son got time to adjust to school.

I treated her well. I think even more than well. The only problem she had is probably with my MIL because of my MIL's OCD and my MIL kept "nagging" her - but again, she never complained to me nor to her agency.

I heard that she learned from her sis who's been a maid for this house for 17 years that she should "protest" in a way sothat i could transfer her to another employer >> well, jump job, salary increment. Simple right?

But that dumb head can only think of things such short sighted. She "managed" to find an Angmor family with 2 kids who's agreeable to pay her $100 more than her current pay when staying with me ($500 - well, shes a new maid) - and maybe an angmor familiy will give her privileges because they believe in human rights etc btc (my friends told me stories about the angmor family allowed the maid to smoke in their yard during her rest time / get cable tv for the maid / allow the maid to freely consume their alcohol in the shelves (MAD!!!). And the dumb head forget about 2 things:

- She will have another month of loan because she need to pay her agency for transferring >> half a year salary gone.

- There's a chance that i could send her back - period!

She made that 2nd mistake. Do you know what she did? She PEE-D into my MIL's juicer. YES, u heard it right. She freaking PEE-D in it.

I discovered it in a morning when i was very rush. I didnt think much, just take a photo & ask my MIL if she recognized the container. But my MIL couldnt find it in Cindy's room. So we let it slide for 1-2 days because i was still paying attention. One day i came into her room (when she asked if she could go to church because it's a new year - her religion, i dont think i should say no), i didnt know what made me look up and saw the freaking container full of the pee up in the highest shelf in her room (She hid it there, obviously). That's it. She crossed the line. BIG TIME.

I can close 1 eye, even 1.5 eyes. this is unbelievable.

What i did? It was at night so i decided to keep quite and ask my MIL to keep quiet until the next day.

Come morning, 9am, my MIL asked her what's that in the container in her room? Cindy tried to lie her way thru and said it was for her throat - lemon & salt. My MIL asked how come it got urine smell? She said oh maybe because of the lemon's skin.

So i told her: "Bring out here! I want to see! U drink it in front of me la!"

She walked into her room. My son followed her because he thought he might find something to play with (well, he was 18m old) but lucky me he did that. I told my MIL to catch him and dont let him go near her at all. My MIL rushed into the room and saw her splash the whole liquid content inside the container thru the window. She was too rush, the container was too full, there's even dropping on the floor (ewwww). She finally admitted it was her pee and told us that because she was lazy to go out of the room to pee at night. BULLSHIT.

I asked her to pack, i tried to call the police but they didnt pick up the freaking phone. So we took her straight to the Agency, telling them our story. Cindy said she was sick that night & the toilet is far away so she didnt want to get out of her room - ya, she was too sick but she still went to church for 1 hour that night. My rented house is a hdb with the type of design that all the rooms + bathroom is in 1 small corridor >> bathroom is sooooooo far that it takes her 5 steps to reach. Ya, right.

Cut my story short. The agency gave me 2 options: to send her back, or to transfer her. I tested her by asking for their recommendation. and they recommended me to send her back. She showed no remorse, asking for her salary, still texting all the time. So i decided to deduct my juicer out from her salary. I even wanna scrutinize on the smallest details but i dont wanna waste time with that ungrateful cunning ... person (err, i was gonna use a much stronger word but nvm) so i decided to leave the agency immed.
My biggest regret? I FORGOT TO CALL THE POLICE AND MAKE A REPORT.

I cant ban her by emailing MOM cuz they said she never got convicted.

She told her friend that she got 2 passport so she's gonna come back to Singapore soon. Ya, like her family knows a governor who could make that happen or smt. Shes still stuck in Manila after 3 weeks.

So, my friends. Please spread the words on this case and please dont make the mistakes to hire this one again. U might end up drinking her pee one day. (I've heard about worse)

Here's her face.

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE FRANCIS SEOW

0
0

Dear ASS,

Francis Seow, Singapore's former solicitor general and perhaps, in his short career as an opposition politician, one of the most illustrious, after the late JB Jeyaretnam in his day, passed away on 21st January this year, according to Dr Chee Soon Juan.

In the 1980s, the PAP was on the electoral slide. It used to garner on average 75% of the national vote in the 1970s. However, the 1980s proved to be a new period in Singapore politics. JB Jeyaretnam won Anson in a by election. In the following general election, he successfully defended his seat and another opposition politician, Chiam See Tong, was elected. The highs of the 75% victory margins plummeted into the 60s range. The PAP's electoral results went from bad to worse. By the 1988 general election, it secured only 63% of the popular vote, an all time low since independence, at that point in time. By the 1991 general election, the number of votes the PAP managed to win was an all time low of 61%.

I believe that if Lee Kuan Yew refused to step down as prime minister, the PAP would have eventually been forced from power. The public wasn't blind to the excesses of his administration and the melting pot of extra-judicial detentions, defamation suits, name-calling and open slander Lee readily wielded against opposition figures and the vindictiveness in the way constituencies who voted against the PAP were treated, such as denial of proper facilities for opposition elected MPs to meet their constituents and withdrawal of government amenities and services. The PAP's vote percentages were freefalling and the public made clear its dissatisfaction by even voting in moderate candidates from Chiam See Tong and his then-SDP slate.

It was in this period that Francis Seow began his political career. He is an eloquent person, in his words and expression. His writings are often entertaining, compared to the bland platitudes from the PAP bureaucrats and the PAP-written textbooks extolling the virtues of "good governance". If he were in the West, he would have been a successful politician, certainly a parliamentarian, or a member of a legislative body, an elected governor (in the United States setting), or perhaps even a prime minister, president or chancellor. His dip into opposition politics began as law society president, which was an irritant to Lee Kuan Yew. Lee, as usual, wielded his knuckle
dusters by first attempting to bully and intimidate Seow, on national television, and Seow had the honour of being one of the few who successfully stood up to Lee Kuan Yew in the public spotlight. As was typical of Lee Kuan Yew in the 1980s, if he can't put down troublesome opposition politicians with words, he does it with the law and his kangaroo parliament and try to sprinkle the gloss of "public good" over it. With that, the law society was muzzled by the rubber stamp parliament, and today it is now an institution that does the dirty work of the PAP, as seen in the way it has treated and is now treating human rights lawyer M Ravi.

It did not end there. Francis Seow was subsequently detained under the internal security act, on the made-in-fairytale land grounds that he "received money from the United States to promote democracy in Singapore". Somehow, the PAP forgotten completely about the line in the national pledge to "...build a democratic society". Somehow, the supposedly brilliant Lee Kuan Yew, possibly, the most brilliant and the next best person after Jesus Christ, as insinuated by PAP propaganda, suddenly could not differentiate the USA from the USSR, or Reagan from Gorbachev, who was planning a global communist revolution, and who wasn't. For all the talk of being a first world country, Lee acted much like a third world revolutionary despot such as but not restricted to, Mugabe,Kim the grandfather, son and grandson of North Korea and the Soviet politburo who would persecute their opponents on charges that they were American stooges. But that did not scuttle Francis Seow. He campaigned in the 1988, under the WP's ticket, in Eunos GRC, parts of which are in today's Aljunied GRC, where he attracted large crowds by his eloquence. His team fell shy of claiming Eunos by only a 1% margin. He was subsequently harassed by the tax collectors, charged on what I believe to be false charges of tax evasion, and when a jail term loomed, forced into exile, where he passed away. It was reported that Lee Kuan Yew postponed the opening session of the new parliament, so as to get a jail term imposed on Francis Seow, depriving him of his NCMP seat.

Besides the 2010s, the 1980s was one of the most illustrious periods for opposition politics, and also the most tumultuous. Lee Kuan Yew, for the first time, was outmatched by the likes Francis Seow, Devan Nair and JB Jeyaretnam, who unlike the violent, disruptive and slogan mongering communists of the 1950s and early 1960s (Note: I am not referring to some of the detainees of Operation Coldstore, who were jailed on what probably was trumped up charges of being communists), were eloquent, non-violent and knew how to play the constitutional and democratic channels. Lee Kuan Yew had met his match and he was not about to go down without a fight. Devan Nair was unceremoniously shamed as an alcoholic who could not manage his family issues and resigned from the presidency, when in all likelihood, he was pushed from it.

JB Jeyaretnam was framed by Lee Kuan Yew for not properly reporting the WP's accounts and jailed, which caused him his seat in parliament. He was subsequently sued for "defamation" by Lee, when Jeyaretnam asked a question of public interest at an election rally - how did Teh Cheang Wan get the poison, which was a banned substance in Singapore, to kill himself, an an explanation and an investigation from the government on this matter, and bankrupted. He and Tang Liang Hong were smeared and removed from the political scene for good in the 1990s and 2000s. The privy council, the last viable check against Lee's administration, was removed from the legal system the year after it found that Jeyaretnam was framed. A similar fate befell Francis Seow.

The abrupt end to the career of Francis Seow, like JB Jeyaretnam and Devan Nair, put an end to the blossoming of liberal politics in Singapore. For almost two decades, and two general elections that followed, in 2001 and 2006, the opposition was a shadow of its 1980s self, struggling for its existence and credibility, de-fanged with the loss of Jeyaretnam and Seow. Many attributed the beginning of the oppositions' long walk in the wilderness to the implosion within the SDP in the period between the 1991 and 1997 general elections. But, certainly, I believe, that with Jeyaretnam and Francis Seow in parliament, and Devan Nair in politics, the opposition would still have held its own instead of having all its eggs thrown into Chiam See Tong's basket. It would continue to attract and inspire people to be involved in opposition politics. The PAP would have been taken to task about its transport, CPF, immigration, welfare, education, grassroots and housing policies, laying the groundwork for the opposition of today.

The sacrifices of the 1980s generation was not in vain. The opposition is now stronger that what it was in the 2000s. Eventually, the day will come when the vision of a liberal, tolerant Singapore, which Jeyaretnam and Francis Seow envisioned, will come to past, sweeping the Singapore built on Confucianism, dishonour and authoritarianism, into the dustbins of history.

Rest in peace, Mr Francis Seow. May history be kinder to you than what it was to Lee Kuan Yew, and may history eventually do you and those of your generation justice.

UNCLE CHALLENGE ME TO FIGHT AFTER I ASKED FOR APOLOGY WHEN HE STEP MY FEET

0
0

Dear ASS Editors,

Boarded the bus 185, this morning and met with a wannabe UFC fighter. I was seated near the rear of the bus and this uncle was going towards the back end of the bus. My feet did not crossed the bus passageway. While he was going to the back of the seat, he stepped on my feet, i asked “ Uncle, could you say sorry , as you had stepped on my feet?”

He says “sorry lah, you want to fight is it? ”, in a loud tone. I told him, he stepped on my feet, and he challenged me to a fight, when i ask him for a sorry. He progressed to say i said sorry , already. You want to fight is it ? Are u mad or what? I repeated several times i only ask for sorry, is because he stepped on my feet.

He keeps repeating, U want to fight, are you mad? After a few minutes, i decided to take a picture, as this could be a good way to educate on social behaviour and etiquette, and in a way to stop this aggressive and anti social behaviour, in public .

He swiped my phone away from my hand, while i was taking a picture. Luckily my phone fell to the seat, and not on the ground. That is when, I decided to call the police and told the bus driver about this incident .

If everyone behaves this way, i think the ride will be very stressful. Be considerate to one another on the bus, including to the driver.

MAN SCOLDS PREGNANT LADY FOR SITTING ON PRIORITY SEAT, CLAIMS SON IS POLICEMAN

0
0

To the policeman son of this man.

Dear Mr Policeman,

I hope this letter is able to reach you through the internet. I am writing to you to inform you that your father seems to be under a lot of stress. So stressed that he scolded my wife, who is 5 months pregnant, incessantly for taking the priority seat on the MRT, even after she told him that she is pregnant.

My wife was wearing a loose fit dress, and has a remarkable baby bump. Out of nowhere, your father came in front of her and started scolding her for occupying the priority seat. Stunned the sudden event, my wife looked at him incredulously a while before telling him that she is pregnant. The whole incident would have ended if he had apologised and acknowledged that he had made a mistake. But no, his reply:" it doesn't show." Then continued, non-stop, to chided her for the way she looked at him. My wife plead him to stop countless times, but he just went on with his verbal abuse - abuse on a helpless pregnant woman sitting on a seat that she is entitled to sit on.

Out of desperation and frustration, she demanded him to stop, or she would call the police. His reply:"go ahead, my son is a police." That's how we know you are a police. I believe, as a well respected policeman like you, you wouldn't condone such as actions. He stepped over the line. Hence, this letter.

Feeling helpless and maligned, my wife started tearing. This saddens me because i was not there to comfort her. Being pregnant is stressful and tiring enough, she don't deserve any of the abuses your father had thrown at her. What maddens me is that your father just walked off without apologising, and sat at a PRIORITY seat in the next cabin.

If this letter does reach you, please let your father know that if he needs a seat just ask, and most polite people would give up their seats for him. Also, please find him alternative ways to help him de-stress, raising his voice at others achieves nothing, only bring himself unnecessary embarrasement.

Thank you very much for your time.

P.s: To the young man sitting at the PRIORITY seat next to my wife - You slept through the whole episode. I hope you had a sweet dream.

EX-INDON MAID WHO MARRIED S'POREAN TAUNTED & HURT MAN'S WIFE & CHILDREN

0

Dear Allsgstuff,

I read the story on your facebook page with the above heading: LOVE STORY: EX-INDON MAID MARRIES S'POREAN MAN AGAINST HIS FAMILY'S WISHES.

I would like for you to correct the story as it is not complete, nor does it tell the whole story. This story isn't a "love story", this story is about betrayal, hurt, and attention seeking monkeys that send in stories that favours her in order the gain sympathy. Seeing how she wants attention, how about we make it bigger by telling the full story, then people can judge if she really should get sympathy, pity and "acceptance".

Her "husband" was SOMEONE ELSE's LEGAL husband to begin with. They have been married for more than 10 years. They have 3 beautiful, lovely and wonderful children, age 12, 10, and 5. The children are very sensible and very well-behaved (of course no children in this world is perfect but I've definitely seen worse).

Of course I get that it takes two to tango, so I'm not saying that the maid is the only one at fault here.

Here's what everyone else didn't know happen:
- There was a period of time, the maid sent mean and hurtful messages to the wife (now ex-wife) to taunt her and I can vouch for this, as I have personally, read those hurtful, mean, demeaning messages.
- The husband physically abused his wife (now ex-wife) in front of his young children, when they were arguing because of this maid.
- The 3 children are still hurting from losing a father figure at home, especially the youngest.
- Needless to say, the poor ex-wife still cries because of the hurt, pain, disappointment and betrayal.
- The reason the maid was banned from Singapore was BECAUSE she broke up a Singaporean family (they got married before divorcing the first wife). It isn't purely because she "fell in love" with a Singaporean while she had her WP.

Oh, she also failed to mention that she doesn't think she is wrong, at all, not sorry for hurting the wife, not sorry for hurting the 3 young children, not sorry for ANYTHING that she has done to this family. Why? Because she is "in love". Because she is in love, everything the both of them has done is right, the hurt she has caused should be forgiven, the pain she has bought upon this family should be forgotten.

So calling this a love story is a really pushing it. Love isn't about putting yourself first, love is about thinking of others and sacrificing your needs for theirs. Well, was there anyone thinking of the children, how hurt they would be to have to see their father hurt their mother, how hurt they would feel when their father can't even come to their graduation ceremony because it was on a weekend and he needed to see her? Well, no. So don't call this love, it's an insult to every married couple in this world.

Oh, by the way, I'm not related to anyone in this story, I'm just a friend of the person that REALLY needs sympathy and support but doesn't go on social media to get it!

PS/ a whole lot more happened because of the maid, I am just not in the position to publicly write about it. The purpose of this email was just to expose her lies and prevent her from getting the support from netizen and continuing believing that she is right to pursue her "love" even if it means hurting young innocent children.

Thanks for reading.

LADY SAYS S'POREANS PREFERRED FOR JOBS OVER FOREIGNERS. IS SHE INSANE?

0
0
I just read this junk opinion piece on Linkedin by a young Singaporean lady, who gives herself some grand sounding titles like "Marketing Enthusiast. Social & Community Builder. Tech lover & startup hustler."

Her piece is a complete cop out and a blatant lie. Here's an excerpt summarising her whole article:

"Being of Singaporean nationality, I know I’m one of the lucky ones. I can take all the time I need because my stay in this country is not bound by a legal document – a student visa, a work permit or an employment pass. For employers, hiring a local also means less processes, costs, risks; and most importantly, less scrutiny from the government – the one thing all businesses hope to avoid.

But, Singaporeans– how does that make you feel? I can’t speak for all of you, but the last thing I want is to be hired for a nationality I belong to (or not). I don’t want to be selected for a job because I was the “easier way out”. I want to be selected for a role because I earned it. I want to be chosen because I outperformed all other candidates in the running, proved my ability and ultimately emerged as the best candidate for the position."

I don't know how she can live with herself for uttering such crap and I think many locals will be able to see her for who she really is: a wannabe writer trying too hard to sound intelligent when she's not even stepped out and seen the world for what it is.

The employment market is an unforgiving place. Businesses are about profits and margins. It is not about hiring the best workers every time, but the cheapest and the most bang for buck. When a Singaporean resume turns up on the desk of the HR personnel of a foreign MNC, they see high costs, CPF contributions, NS commitments, compulsary employment benefits and other regulations which makes hiring a Singaporean more troublesome than hiring a foreigner. The only hassle can be circumvented by filling in some forms to show that the company has considered Singaporeans first for the job by holding a few interviews with Singaporean candidates, or sometimes not at all.

Is it any wonder that foreign PMETs are arriving in Singapore in droves, while local graduates, especially those in the middle of their careers, are finding themselves retrenched or losing their jobs to younger, cheaper, better, faster foreign colleagues?

So before you go writing another one of these senseless articles and make a fool out of yourself, I suggest that you take a look at the real world, Shermin.

<Reader Contribution>

Dear A.S.S,

WE NEED TO GET THIS VIRAL AND SHARE TO ALL SUBWAY around the world on What just happen to us !!!

This is outrageous, I have never seen this type of service at any ‪#‎subway‬ singapore or anywhere in the world. Seriously this MILLENIA WALK #subway outlet made it's mark and I will never want to go to any #subway ever !!!!

This lady name if I remember, is Krystal Tan. Please remember this mid-aged lady.

Let me explain what happen.
We had a event on 15th Jan 2016 around 4pm and we was just about to grab late lunch, when we enter, this lady at the counter greeted us with so much enthusiasm. Why ? Why she did that ? Okay that make us comfortable, we decided to go along the flow.. We joked and talk along the way. As we are ordering each sandwiches, still very wary why she so nice, we make it difficult, requested on different things and we told her specifically that we love our bacon in all our sandwiches. I cannot believe this, she got the audacity to offer to get the bacon Crispy first. Can still smile and tell us that she will get it perfect for all of us, she even made sure that my order of sandwich got toasted right !! This has never happen before !! Our bacon, toast crispy with cheese melting in our mouth !! What on earth is this place !!

At the end of the meal while she is clearing the tables around us, she came over explaining the timing she set for oven so that the sandwiches taste perfect and lastly left us with a quote " Life is great, be happy " She will be seeing us more often at MILLENIA WALK subway..

Thank you, Subway Singapore, you made it great !!

MY FRIEND'S COMPANY DID BETTER WHEN HE HIRED S'POREANS INSTEAD OF FOREIGNERS

Share a story. A business friend had been hiring mainly foreign workers for past 3 years, his company sales result was never really good, always drastically up and down.

Till recently, the government tightened the quota for hiring foreign workers, he left with choice but to hire Singaporeans.

After 9 months, the sales result was good and 10 to 15% growth quarterly

The Singaporean workers are committed. His logistics supervisor is an Indian, a very responsive and committed person, and able to manage a team of delivery guys and store guys effectively. He is able to communicate with those admin personnel and sales guys easily.

In the past, he hired Filipino as logistics supervisor, store men and delivery guys were all PRC.

Filipino speaks English, PRC cannot understand pinoy talking

Bottom line, Singaporeans are generally still committed and responsive, and willing to hold more responsibilities, it depends how the boss treats him or her.

S'POREN COWARD THREATENED MY MALAYSIAN NEPHEW AFTER HITTING HIS CAR

Dear fellow Singaporeans who drive in to our neighbouring country for whatever purpose. Do not blame the citizens there for taking law in their own hands because our own drivers is taking law in their own way while in other country.

To the driver of this SGS1077P, you have brought shame to us when you decided to hit & run from this minor accident.

You can run, but you can never hide.

Date/Time : 17/0/2016 @ 2345hrs
Location : Johor Bahru CIQ Building

That you hit my nephew's msian registered vehicle and did not even bother to stop or check on the accident, but instead your passenger friend attempted to threaten my nephew who is alone. Despite informing you that you are involved in an accident, you did not even bother to respond and proceeded to drive off. If you are such ball-less prick, don't drive to JB next time for fuel and food! Karma will be on you!

HELP FOR 3 KIDS WHO LOST THEIR FATHER TO KIDNEY FAILURE

0
0

We are a group of Singaporean teenagers from various schools and backgrounds, who have gathered together with a desire to bring hope to the less fortunate children out there. We've come to understand that existing within the same geographical domains as us are children who are growing up but struggling with persisting financial issues, hindering them from discovering their full potential or living to the best of their childhood. We thus hope that with your help, we can provide these children with a breathing space, in the midst of drowning amongst the heavy load of problems.

Life's greatest challenge is its unpredictability, the sense of helplessness when life takes your love one away from you. Sabrina, who turns 13 this year, fully understood the tragic meaning of this sentence when her father was diagnosed with kidney failure and diabetes back in 2012. Prior to that, Sabrina had a blessed family filled with warmth, consisting of loving parents and two younger siblings. With the illness, her dad’s eyesight began to fail and also became bedridden. Sabrina’s mum had to quit her job to take care of the family. Tragically, a year later, her dad passed away.

Sabrina's mother had to stop work then to support her family, and they were thus left with no sources of income. The Social Service Office and the Compassion Fund provided interim assistance to the family in the immediate aftermath of the crisis. Since then, the Compassion Fund has continued providing financial support to ensure that Sabrina and her younger siblings are able to continue schooling.

In view of this, we aim to raise a total of $7,000 for the family to alleviate their financial burden and to help restore some normalcy to the children’s lives. However, this will not be possible without your kind help.

The $7,000 will primarily go to the schooling and household expenditure needs of Sabrina and her two younger siblings for the next two years. The money will be used for, but not limited to

- assisting them with their pocket money so as to ensure they get proper meals
- an extra set of school uniform and school shoes
- stationary, assessment books
- school fees and transportation costs
- NTUC vouchers for the family

Therefore, we earnestly seek your aid in shining a beacon of light back into Sabrina and her siblings’ lives and give them strength and hope to make forward, despite the obstacles that they are facing.

Our crowdfunding page is in the below link
https://www.giving.sg/campaigns/help_bring_hope_to_sabrina

All the money goes directly to Compassion Fund where they will disburse the donations collected to the family.

(The name of the child has been changed to protect her identity)”

FAITHFUL GIRLFRIEND: ABUSIVE EX CHEATED ON ME WITH MARRIED WOMAN

We were so close to getting engaged when my nightmare happened.. It was his birthday so he was out drinking with his friends. Thats when everything happened.. She went to his table and asked for money to buy lollipops. Why would she do that when she was drinking with a bunch of friends?

Moving on, he handed her the money and said "since I gave you money to buy lollipops, why don't you give me your number so that you can treat me lunch back?"

And so she gave him her number and they kept in contact texting each other everyday. (P.S. he told her he is attached and she's fine with it.. also, she's married with two kids)

I've been with him in a relationship for five years plus and he never even treated me like how he treated her.. send her home and make time to meet her.. He doesn't buy stuff for me and complains and comments about everything single thing that I do, often calling me dumb or stupid. He complains about sending me home, saying it's too far and too troublesome. I buy stuff for him using my own money (when I barely have enough for myself) cancelled my appointments just to meet him and even travel all the way to the west to meet him. I just silently accept everything, thinking that he really loved me.

My nightmare started when I saw his phone.. the texts to her.. It was 5am in the morning and I was at his house. It was the morning when I accidentally saw his texts to her.. He flirted with her and lied to me. I was so lost and angry that I .went home.. he opened the door for me without asking why am I leaving at 5am in the morning.

Things got worse after that.. he constantly lied to me and even tried contacting her on Facebook..

He was planning to propose on 11/11/15 (he told me after questioning him for days) and I found out two weeks before.. thank God I found out early.. Guys and girls out there, please beware of this couple as they will cheat on you even if they are attached or married..You people out there shouldn't suffer the pain that I've been through..being lied to and cheated on! Phoebe ho aka bebe086 and qiu zhiwei, this is for the both of you!
