Poh Seng Song Accused Of Being Whistleblower Who Leaked WhatsApp Message

0
0

In a blow to local sporting arena, the state media reported that Singapore Athletics (SA) had banned Poh Seng Song from holding any office position within the jurisdiction of SA and/or its affiliates for two terms. Poh Seng Song was the former Vice-President of Finance and Partnership who resigned from SA after two years. However he was still slapped with this ban after a Board of Inquiry (BOI) convened by SA allegedly concluded that he was “very likely” the person who had leaked a WhatsApp message the current Honorary Secretary, Eric Song, had made about national pole vaulter Rachel Yang and her coach/husband David Yeo.

Poh Seng Song subsequently defended himself and shared why he quit SA over the leaked WhatsApp. In February 2020 Eric Song received a letter of demand claiming he had made defamatory and malicious remarks against Rachel Yang and David Yeo such as calling them "ungrateful and selfish". Eric Song allegedly made these remarks in his "official capacity of a Hon Sec" and even managed to get the majority of the SA Management Committee to support and fiance his possible personal lawsuit.

Poh Seng Song could not understand how SA, being charity organisation with IPC status, financed a personal lawsuit. He therefore resigned over this issue.

SA later proceeded to set up the BOI to investigate who was the whistleblower who leaked Eric Song's WhatsApp remarks about Rachel Yang and David Yeo. When Poh Seng Song tried to reach out to the BOI, they did not respond to him and only sent an email on 4 August informing him about the ban.

Poh Seng Song denies being the whistleblower.

He further shared that the actual whistleblower may not have in breach of any policy because "the Charity Council’s code of governance advises charity organisations with IPC status to have whistleblowing policy."

Historian Thum Ping Tjin Hauled Up By Police Over New Naratif's Paid Advertisements During GE2020

0
0

The Elections Department (ELD) recently filed a police report claiming New Naratif of publishing five paid advertisements during the GE2020 campaign period. ELD accused New Naratif of violating the Parliamentary Elections Act. As the Act only allows election advertising which is done by or made on behalf of a candidate, the ELD said New Naratif was going against the law by publishing these five Facebook ads.

However New Naratif remains firm and called the police complaint an act of harassment to strike fear into government critics and citizenry, and an abuse of the law. New Naratif also responded that the law was written too broadly and therefore ELD could use the Elections Act to make legitimate political activity illegal without a permit.

New Naratif pointed out that it had been the victim of mounting attacks. The company was previously denied from being registered in Singapore by Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). Minister of Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam also went to great lengths to grill Thum Pingtjin's credentials and even questioned New Naratif's motives and source of funding. New Naratif had also been issued two POFMA correction notices for "fake news."

On 21 Sep 2020 New Naratif updated that Thum Ping Tjin (PJ Thum) had been hauled up by the police for questioning at Clementi Police Station over the ELD police report. After a lengthy hours-long police interview, the police brought PJ Thum home and his laptop was seized as evidence during this raid.

Even international organisations like International Press Institute (IPI) have denounced the police actions against New Naratif as it is a new blow against press freedom.

Has journalism become a crime here?

Facebook Page Scammed Online Shopper With Fake Shoes

0

A reader has shared her experience with a Facebook page which has apparently scammed her. The Facebook page called "Shopping Party" makes posts claiming to sell branded items at discounted prices. They claimed the prices were reduced for clearance or gave excuses like anniversary sales.

To further mislead buyers, the Facebook page even posts photos of the branded shoeboxes.

Our reader's personal experience was when she tried to purchase a pair of Onitsuka Tiger shoes for SGD$48. However to her horror and disappointment, the pair of shoes delivered to her were fake. The brand turned out to be some label named "Fashion Shoes" which barely look like they cost $20.

Our reader has not been the only victim. The Facebook page also had some complaints from customers who may have received low-quality replacement goods.

Online shoppers should proceed with caution when making online purchases.

SDP Stands In Solidarity With New Naratif's Thum Ping Tjin

New Naratif's founder Dr Thum Ping Tjin (PJ Thum) was recently hauled up by police for investigations into supposedly "illegal" political advertisements during the GE2020 campaign period. PJ Thum was interrogated by police for hours and he was then escorted back home where his personal belongings like laptop were seized.

The sudden investigation and his treatment caused an online outcry. Netizens pointed out the double standards where certain pro-establishment individuals seemed to be spared while New Naratif had to face a thorough investigation after the Elections Department (ELD) filed a police complaint.

The latest to show their support for PJ Thum and New Naratif was the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP). On the evening of 22 Sep 2020, SDP made a press release to decry the harassment of activists and independent journalists in Singapore. The SDP explained that PJ Thum was only exercising his rights as a citizen of Singapore to comment on the local political situation.

SDP said the ELD was acting in a partisan manner, and hit back at the ELD by suggesting the department should look into the "numerous incidents regarding the PAP" where elections rules may have been breached.

One of recent incident during GE2020 was a breach of election rules by the PAP minister Ong Ye Kung. He illegally featured a boy living in Sembawang for a campaign video on his Facebook page. However the millionaire minister was only issued an advisory and the police did not be take any further action after the video was taken down. It is therefore unlikely the minister had his home raided and equipment confiscated.

Makansutra's KF Seetoh Criticises Manpower Policy For Offering Blue Collared Jobs Locals Shun Or Cannot Do

0
0

The Straits Times recently ran an article "About 5,400 jobs on offer in food sector despite pandemic". However KF Seetoh, Singapore top chef and founder of Makansutra, felt that the appropriate title should have been "5.4k jobs on offer in Food sector that nobody is hard up for, since April".

While KF Seetoh supports the creation of jobs, he shed light on how these job offers for blue collared work in the F&B industry involve basic cooking preparations and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. These offers would be a mismatch for Singaporeans who have been brought up to aspire for higher goals, or educated and trained in skills for another industry.

The current Manpower policy states that at least three Singaporeans need to be hired before a qualified foreigner can be hired. He shared how numerous restaurateurs and hawkers who are struggling to look for local workers who want fair and even above fair wage. To make matters worse, F&B outlets need to pay monthly levies of up to $1,000 for each foreign staff.

These restrictive Manpower policies will only kill off more F&B outlets, and ironically those laid off staff will end up being offered blue collared jobs in the F&B industry again.

KF Seetoh called for a rethink into these policies and recommends ringfencing certain industries to allow aspiring entrepreneurs to blossom with the aid of qualified regional foreigners. One way would be to remove the levy and local-foreign quota for such industries since Singaporeans are not even looking for such jobs in the first place. This will help the local hawkers and F&B players from shuttering up due to manpower woes.

Preetipls Joins Anti-Death Penalty Movement To Abolish Capital Punishment

0
0

Influencer Preetipls has been running a video series called "Nobody Asked" to discuss various interesting topics about Singapore. In her latest episode, Preetipls shared about the death penalty in Singapore and why it should be abolished.

Preetipls gave a run down of the offences in Singapore which will invoke the death penalty, and specifically focused on the issue of drug trafficking. Such death row inmates are usually minorities from disadvantaged backgrounds or non-Singaporeans. Preetipls also gave some context and statistics on the death penalty here, including a recent controversial ongoing case of death row inmate Syed Suhail.

Preetipls shared numerous reasons why capital punishment should be abolished: (1) mistakes by the police and courts have been made, (2) prisoners' rights where a prison officer may be able to intercept or withhold prisoners' written letters, and (3) the Singapore Prison Services motto to "Rehab, Renew, Restart" is ironic after people have been executed.

Preetipls applauded Kirsten Han for compiling all the detailed anti-penalty resources in her website. She also called Singaporeans to speak up on this issue by signing a petition or writing to their Members of Parliament.

Police Report Made Against Tutor Who Allegedly Stole Company Belongings

A reader has come forward to share her experience with a staff who allegedly stole company belongings. The staff member Alicia is working for a tuition agency, and according to the reader's allegedly took two keys to the company's main and wooden doors as well as a Warcom tablet. Alicia subsequently went missing and remained uncontactable.

To make matters worse, when our reader tried contacting Alicia through SMS, the reader realised she had been blocked.

Screenshots sent to All Singapore Stuff showed that the staff member had recently made an online job posting, indicating that Alicia's Facebook account still works. However Alicia apparently refused to reply to our reader's messages.

She hopes to retrieve her company's belongings in a suitable manner. So the reader was therefore left with no other choice but to file a police report.

Students of Beauty Paws International Allegedly Get Victimised

0
0

I would like to bring to your attention about this dog grooming school called Beauty Paws.

1st of all, Beauty Paws is not registered as an academic institution with ACRA thus not allowed to teach. I Happened to find out about this about a CASE complaint submission. Their facebook page is Beauty Paws International.

There is only 1 instructor who is also the principal and sole owner of the entity - Mr Roy Tan Jun Hong. He has very bad conduct himself and also insults, threatens students with his ill mannered behaviour. They're way too many incidents that took place to perhaps all of his students who are victims.

I hereby hope that no other people will fall victim to this illegal grooming institute.

We paid money not to get treated this way. He always threatens students that he will jeopardise our grooming career should we not do what he wanted. This includes buying him food & drink and helping him clean up the place. He houses more than 20 dogs in his redhill unit which has got complaint from residents and later moved to Geylang renting a space to teach & house his dogs there as a "partner" which he has had some scams issues (I shall not touch on that part as i'm not involved)

The dogs live in a horrible environment back in Redhill. He throws them & hits them when he is not happy. Sadly, we don't have footage evidence to do justice for the poor dogs. We're just innocent and naive victims who have not much knowledge thus falling prey.

Pls help to highlight to prevent further victims from falling prey. There're more than 5 CASE complaints being made with Beauty Paws & more than 2 police reports as well. Thank U so much in advance. Attached is d video footage of how he insulted, bully, hurl vulgarities and throw students stuff just because he is not happy when the student did a wrong cut. He, as an instructor, all he needs to do is to correct the wrong cut.

Regards,
Students of Beauty Paws

More Civil Activists Stand Up For New Naratif's Thum Ping Tjin

0
0

New Naratif's founder Dr Thum Ping Tjin (PJ Thum) was hauled up by the police and had his electronic equipment seized. The police acted swiftly following a complaint filed by the Elections Department (ELD) accusing New Naratif of running illegal election advertisements.

The police treatment of PJ Thum has been viewed as a form of state harassment and intimidation tactics. Many netizens remain outraged by the police action taken against independent journalism, and a possible infringement into PJ Thum's rights to express his political views as a citizen.

International organisations and political parties like the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) have come to the defence of New Naratif, and their voices have just been joined by prominent civil activists like playwright Alfian Sa'at, as well as activists such as Sean Francis Han and Function 8.

Alfian Sa'at felt that the image of the police gathering at PJ Thum's office was troubling and chilling. It illustrated how overwhelming power wielded by the state and how the police are used to enforce broadly-worded laws. He also feels the image is chilling because its transmission could aid in "state terrorism" by serving as a visible warning to the public. Alfian Sa'at then shared why he looks up to PJ Thum as he is meticulous in his work with uncovering history based on previously neglected or unavailable sources.

Civil activist group Function 8 decried the mistreatment of PJ Thum as an act of harassment and called for his personal equipment to be released. The PAP was seen to be acting in an unreasonable and vindictive manner, by using taxpayers’ money to ensure its own interests and survival. The actions against New Naratif are also unnecessary given that the advertisments had minuscule to no effect since the PAP still won by a landslide during GE2020.

As of today, the police still have PJ Thum's belongings in their possession.

Terrible Experience With Soon Tien Driving School, Instructor Punched Student's Thigh, Disappears During Lesson

0
0

I’m writing in to share a terrible experience I had with a driving school in Singapore. The name of the driving school is Soon Tien Driving School.

I got to know this driving school through SgInstructors (they are the worse. I’ll get into the details later about them).

I got paired to a driving instructor through SgInstructors. He is an old man who apparently doesn’t bother much about what u do during your lessons as most of the time, he was talking on his phone with his girlfriend. I’ve read in an recent article about this instructor and decided to share my side of the story as well.

Long story short, the instructor insulted students mother and owner apologised to student and came up with some lame excuse that the instructor was someone they hire during the busy periods only. Obviously, they are lying and trying to cover up themselves, leaving the instructor to fend for himself while they try to do service recovery and end the commotion quickly before it escalates further.

Anthony is not an instructor that they hire during the busy period. He is my instructor now and he has been for the past 8 lessons I had. All I can say that he is terrible at his job and I seriously is having the thought of changing the instructor.

During the first lesson he punched my thigh multiple times as I released the clutch too early and the engine died. He said and I quote in mandarin, “死人脚,每次不听话,不听话”,which is loosely translated as “stupid leg, always does not listen to command”. I scolded him for lifting a finger on me and he kept apologising thereafter.

It’s was my first lesson and it’s as if he expected me to know everything. If I knew how to drive, I would not have engaged you for it. I pay to learn, not paid to get physically abused.

Occasionally during my 90mins lesson, he would ask me to stop halfway while he go does his own stuff ie stop by the roadside along circuit road while he goes buy his dinner. He would ask me to stop in the middle of nowhere along the road behind a row of parked cars and asked me to wait. Leaving me alone in the car with the engine still switched on, along a very busy road. It’s was 6pm+ in the evening and the traffic along that road was congested.

As I was illegally parked behind a row of parked cars, I had to constantly move my car forward and backwards as I’ve to give way to those parked cars who are coming out. Yes. All by myself. He came back with a packet of rice almost 20mins later and started to eat in his car with no seat belt on.

He proceeded to get me to drive to a petrol kiosk and he said wanted to top up the fuel and wanted to use the toilet. This took another 10mins. I lost a total of 30mins for a lesson that I paid for 90mins and this happens regularly. Not that I want to be calculative of what but we are paying to learn and of course we want to learn as much as possible in the shortest time possible. I don’t think this is the way to handle a driving lesson.

Speaking abt the owner, his name is Mr Tan. He is an eccentric man. He does all our bookings and he has this habit of copying and pasting multiple messages and sending it to u in 1 shot. When I said multiple, I seriously mean MULTIPLE. LIKE 10 messages in 1 short, telling u abt the rules and regulations of booking with him. He has this format whereby u die die have to follow. WORD FOR WORD. Down to the punctuation. Any error, he would call you and scold u, ask you to not waste his time. He’s blur and always got my bookings wrong.

There was even once he forgot abt my booking and I made a wasted trip down to the driving class only to find out he forgot to book for me. He called to apologise and compensated for my class thereafter. He’s rude when u coverage with him and he does not listen to u. It’s like we owed him a living ad he constantly calls u to scold u for not doin it his way when he’s the one who messed up big time always due to his inability to multitask. He charges u extra money if u do not do it his way and calls it “service charge”. He’s the boss of the driving school and yet receiving such a unprofessional service from him.

As for sginstructors, after getting the enrolment fees of $85 from me and attaching me to such an atrocious school, they literally ghosted me. When I approached their help and let them know of my experience and if they could recommend me another driving school, they asked to approached Mr Tan instead. Yes. Mr Tan. The boss of the Tan Soon Tien Driving school. 1 of the cause of my ordeal. That was their resolution for me. The replied frm them was also unprofessional. I changed frm manual to auto on my 3rd lesson and I told sginstructors if I have to pay any charges. They replied no. But when I told them abt the ordeal I went through on my 7th lesson, they literally ghosted me. This was the convo we had:

Me: Hi, I’ve just changed change my lesson frm manual to automatic and my instructor had agreed. Pls advise if there are any changes in the charges.

Sg: if instructor say ok then its settled

This was the convo on my 7th lesson when I told them abt my situation:

Me: Hi there. Can u get me a better driving instructor? The one you recommended gave me a very bad service. (blue ticked but didn’t reply me)

Waited exactly 1 day later:

Me : Hello? R u there?

30mims later and still no reply

Me: Are u ghosting me now? I expect a replay latest by the end of Monday. If not, I will be goin public with what is goin on here and announce to the world for recommending such a driving school to me who abused their students.

Waited for more than an hr

Sg: text 9009 XXXX you are under them now also you changed your lesson frm manual to auto free of charge. its a different car. if not, pay up.

Didn’t they said I don’t have to pay extra chargers for changing? Why are they asking me to pay up now? After which they ghosted until now. This happened on 11 Sept 2020.

Very bad experience with sginstructors and I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND them at all!!

PAP MP Useless In Handling Inconsiderate Ang Mo Kio Neighbour

0
0

An anonymous reader has sent troubling news of an inconsiderate neighbour living on the third floor of Blk 116 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4.

According the reader, this neighbour has been treating the open space of the public lift lobby as their own personal space. Wooden chairs and a bench have been placed a few metres away from the lift lobby. These seats will be used as an illegal smoking corner.

During the weekends, the neighbour from hell will sing karaoke till midnight. Such singing sessions will only stop after multiple neighbours have made police complaints.

Even though this neighbour's antics have been reported to HDB, Town Council and even the Member of Parliament (MP), nothing has been done at all.

This area should be under Henry Kwek Hian Chuan who is the PAP MP of Kebun Baru SMC. He was previously Nee Soon GRC MP between 2015 to 2020.

Organic Salon Customers Allegedly Cheated By Random Price Hikes

A Facebook user has come forward with a shocking account of how a hair salon, supposedly run by Chinese nationals, have been cheating customers. The Organic Salon store is located on the first floor of Boon Lay Shopping Centre.

The front of the store boasts a promotion haircut of $3 for its members. The Facebook user was quoted $10 for a men's haircut, however after the cutting session the barber said the price was $35 because the stylist had done a cut and wash.

An uncle who was a customer before the Facebook user was overheard quarreling with the shop. The uncle was allegedly charged $400 for a simple haircut.

The Facebook user hopes to warn other people from becoming victims, and will be collecting information to file a police report for investigation.

A recent case of an Ah Gong allegedly being cheated by a facial spa in Tampines has opened a can of worms about the number of shops offering such questionable pricings.

Loser Gets To Officially Open Sengkang West Community Garden Instead Of Elected MP

0
0

Before GE2020, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Sengkang West SMC was PAP candidate Lam Pin Min. Just when the arrogant party thought Lam Pin Min was capable enough of fronting a victory in a GRC, the brave Sengkang voters showed the incumbent the door by voting in The Workers' Party team consisting of He Ting Ru, Jamus Lim, Raeesah Khan and Louis Chua.

While the newly-minted WP MPs have been proving themselves and working hard for the constituents, the PAP losing team promised that they will fight harder and be back to claim victory in the next General Elections.

A recent Facebook post by Lam Pin Min highlights a unique and strange situation where he was the Guest-of-Honour to officially open the Sengkang West Zone B Community Garden situated at Anchorvale between Block 320B and 320C. It is curious how a Residents' Committee (RC) project gets to launched by a "Grassroots Advisor" instead of the elected MP Jamus Lim.

This unfairness is not new as the Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh had once voiced out the double standards where People's Association (PA) Grassroots Advisers in WP wards are PAP members, while the PAP wards' Advisers continue to remain as PAP members.

This tactic has been accused of being a backdoor where the PAP losers can continue to reach out to residents despite being ousted by more capable non-PAP politicians.

NSF Overwhelmed By Kind Taxi Driver Who Sheltered Him From The Rain

0

Hi, I would like to share a positive experience today.

I didn't expect this kindness movement. Being a NSF with a low pay I couldn't afford to grab home as it was raining today, so I braced myself through the rain.

I didn't bring myself an umbrella because I didn't bring it. While walking to the MRT, there wasn't any shelter from my camp and it was a 13 minutes walk through the rain to the MRT.

While I was waiting at traffic light drenched in the rain, a taxi driver suddenly honk me. I was shocked and he offer me a ride to the MRT because it was abit far. I said I didn't have any money and he said nevermind just come in.

I am so overwhelmed with shock at how kind Singaporeans are and there are kindness that is left unsaid. So with this I am hoping I could repay his kindness once I get my pay.

Thank you
Mohd Nazri

Editor's note: The taxi driver of SHB 5470 M can contact the All Singapore Stuff team to get back to his grateful passenger.

Leong Sze Hian: Disclose The Accumulated Surpluses From Eldershield Premiums

0
0

Finance guru Leong Sze Hian raised an interesting point about the CPF ElderShield program. ElderShield is a national insurance scheme which provides basic monthly cash payouts for those who suffer from severe disability and need long-term care.

According to a Jul 2018 state media article, TODAY reported that ElderShield premiums collected amounted to over S$3.3 billion at the end of 2017. However only an insignificant portion of $133 million was paid out as claims. This would mean that ElderShield premiums continued to have an excess of $3 billion even after these payouts.

Like most insurance schemes, the collected ElderShield premiums will not be sitting idly. The premiums will be invested until the need arise for it to be used as monthly payouts should a claims be made. Leong Sze Hian therefore asked if the $3.3 billion figure included the accumulated interest on the investment returns from the excess premiums to claims? As these figures were not made transparent to the public, Leong Sze Hian guessed if the accumulated surpluses will be about $4 billion?

The interest in ElderShield comes as Singaporeans prepare themselves (and their MediSave money) for the compulsory CareShield Life scheme which will kick in on 1 Oct 2020.

In any case, ElderShield is probably one of the most profitable national long-term care insurance scheme internationally.

Singapore Expats FB Group Breeding Anti-Local Comments

0
0

A private Facebook group Singapore Expats with over 16.5K members has recently been under fire by some netizens. According to complaints sent to All Singapore Stuff, the group has seen an increasing war of words between foreign expats and locals.

While some reasonable voices from both sides have participated in various discussions, the topics on livelihoods and jobs availability in Singapore has created some controversy. It seems some Singaporeans who are group members have been banned from the group after being accused of being "xenophobic." An entitled FB group member sarcastically invited other "xenophobic idiots" lurking in the group to leave.

The expats themselves are not blameless. A few of them were witnessed making comments to mock Singaporeans. An example would be a female netizen who harboured thoughts about Singapore regretting about its decision not to hire foreigners. Another foreigner also exaggerated Singapore should not close itself "under a protective and politically inspired impulse" even though statistics released by the Prime Minister’s Office Strategy Group showed the dip in the non-resident population was largely due to reduced foreign employment in the services sector.

Such comments are seen as being arrogant and condescending, especially when well-paid expats push across such views in a time when Singaporeans have been losing their jobs.

M Ravi: Lim Tean Unlawfully Arrested By Plainclothes Police

0
0

Prominent lawyer Lim Tean was arrested by three plainclothes police officers in his office on 2 Oct 2020. This shocking move comes as Lim Tean was in the midst of helping Leong Sze Hian prepare a defence against a defamation trial filed by the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, which will be heard next week. Lim Tean is also the chief of the Peoples Voice Party (PVP) which contested in Mountbatten SMC, Jalan Besar GRC and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC during GE2020.

The police appeared after Lim Tean failed to show up for a scheduled interview with the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD). The issue was over an alleged criminal breach of trust where a former client accused Lim Tean of misappropriating a sum of money. The police also want to investigate Lim Tean over a separate case where a former employee accused him of unlawful stalking.

A video showed Lim Tean explaining to the officers that his counsel had written in earlier to their superior to excuse himself from the scheduled interview. However one of the officers adamantly insisted Lim Tean be brought in for the interview, and any complaints or accusations "later." The officer then refused to "engage anymore" with Lim Tean before promptly handcuffing him.

As Lim Tean was being handcuffed, he protested that his arrested is politically motivated.

According to lawyer M Ravi, the three disrespectful police officers simply barged into the office without due consideration for Leong Sze Hian. Lim Tean has since instructed M Ravi to act as his Defence Counsel. M Ravi shared that the issues due for investigation is already before the civil court and he had written in to the police to respect the due process. Therefore he said this arrest is unlawful.

Did Singapore Police Misrepresent Lim Tean's Intentions?

0
0

Singaporeans are still in shock over the sudden and swift manner in which lawyer and politician Lim Tean was arrested on 2 Oct. Lim Tean was handcuffed by plainclothes police from the CAD and taken away for investigations over an alleged Criminal Breach of Trust (CBT), and another alleged unlawful stalking offence.

When the police realised that there was a massive online uproar over Lim Tean's arrest, they were forced to make a public statement. In their clarifications, the police wrote they had issued Lim Tean with a written notice on 23 Sep 2020 to attend a compulsory interview on 28 September 2020 over the two alleged offences. The police then claimed that Lim Tean replied through his counsel on 27 Sep 2020 that "he had no intention of turning up for any Police interview."

However M Ravi had called the police arrest as being unlawful.

In a twist of events, Carson Law Chambers publicly released its legal letter sent to the CAD on 28 Sep 2020. A paragraph in this letter explained since the subject matter of the monies was before the State Court, the law firm was of the view that the due process should take its course and the administration of justice should be respected by everyone. The police were advised by Carson Law Chambers that any steps to "compel (Lim Tean) to give a statement would go against the due administration of justice and we reserve our client's right to take the necessary applications in court."

It seems the police may have given the impression that Lim Tean was "uncooperative", while the fact was his counsel had explained to CAD that forcing Lim Tean to give a statement will contravene the due administration of justice.

Parent Shocked By NUH Bill For Covid19 Swab

Hi All Singapore Stuff,

My child was sent to National University Hospital (NUH) due to high fever in the evening, as she had a little runny nose a day prior to the fever.

Over at the hospital, we were told by the doctor that although it was highly unlikely she has Covid19 as there were no other symptoms, but it's for government administrative purpose to do the swab test. After putting our child through all the agony, she was given flu n fever medications. We were sent home after being told that the bill would be sent via mail.

Yesterday we received the Bill and was shocked to see that the Covid19 swab was charged $125! Shouldn't it be free if it was asked to do by the doctor? Even in authorized GP it's only $10 n SingHealth is free. But government restructured hospital charge me at $125?

Seems like there is no consistent standard how medical institutions charge patients for a Covid19 swab. Is there a governing body overseeing this?

Wincy

Lim Tean Heckled By Cops, The Heck Is Going On ?!

Fellow Singaporeans, I once again wake up in the middle of the damned night to reply to this predicament quickly. And what a situation this is !

Several Hours ago, Opposition Figure & Lawyer Lim Tean was arrested, questioned and then placed on bail by the Police. The reasons stated for doing so is an act of alleged criminal breach of trust (CBT) over a former client claiming that he misappropriated monies awarded from a motor injury suit. There was another complaint from a former employee in Lim Tean's law firm over harassment involving stalking and salacious text messages.

Lim Tean was given a summons by the Police Cantonment Complex to attend a "mandatory interview" on the 28th of September, he refused over preparations related to his job and denied the Police statement as "Investigating trumped up charges against him which are politically motivated".

Take note that within the document in which he outright refused the police, he mentioned that the case ahead was "a very important trial involving the Prime Minister", I assume this was the defamation suit against financial adviser "Leong Sze Hian". 3 officers from the Commercial Affairs Department barged into his office, apparently while he was preparing for the libel suit. Shortly after the ordeal, Lim Tean went on a 30 minute livestream addressing the allegations around him.

With all this information in mind, here is my two cents on this situation. While admittedly kept in the dark on whether the allegations surrounding Lim Tean had enough merit for the police to use force without a proper warrant, I am highly suspect within the time frame in which this was done. Assuming that these allegations were pre-existing and not something that would just appear out of nowhere, why did the police specifically muscled into Lim Tean's office one week before that Libel suit ?

It could easily be a subtle message to hold his tongue in the presence of Lee Hsien Loong, like some mobsters trying to intimidate a witness from incriminating their associate. They could have also picked a different window of time to apprehend Lim Tean. Like outside in public while he gets lunch or something. But they specifically wanted to nab him when he was in his own office with a show of force. What is to stop them from rifling through his office & aid the Prime Minister by supplying him information that would otherwise be obtained criminally if it wasn't conducted under the aegis of Civil Forfeiture?

The more I go deeper into this, it seems that one common theme is clear. Those on top are running out of covert means to keep dissent down and are resorting to more visible forms of threat. As much as I hate the idea of police being used for political harassment, keep in mind that this is all speculation on my end. I could be exaggerating something that would otherwise be low profile & within proper guidelines, in which I profusely apologize for making a mountain out of an molehill.

But we, those who resent this dictatorial style of government should still keep on guard. You give them an inch to act further, they will soon be asking for a mile. Bit by bit until the only way they keep society stable is not by the cooperation of men representing other men, but by the barrel of a gun held by men fueled by personal desires.

Until the next incident or injustice,
I am your loyal reader Justin
