#SG50 fact of the day:
Did you know in 1962, the British once kept nuclear missiles in Singapore without the knowledge of the Government, then led by Lee Kuan Yew? These nuclear missiles were kept in the Royal Air Force's base in Tengah and fitted onto Vulcan Nuclear Bombers.
In 1962, Singapore was on limited self-rule, which states that education, healthcare and other non-critical sectors were determined by the local government (helmed by Lee Kuan Yew), and things like foreign affairs and defence, were still under under British control.
In the event of war with Communist China, Vulcan bombers would take-off from Tengah Air Base to drop their nuclear payloads on Chinese forces. Then UK Prime Minister Harold Macmillan personally authorized the moves.
