FORTUNE TELLER IN LITTLE INDIA - CONMAN OR THE REAL DEAL?

The most bizarre thing happened to me today. I got in my car in the Little India area at about 7pm, about to go home, when a smiley Sikh man approached my car and motioned me to wind down my window. I kind of knew what was going to happen, but yes I am naturally a curious person.

So I wound down my window and he asked if he could talk to me for a bit and I said sure. He then went on to scribble on a piece of paper, folded it and passed it to me. He told me to hold the paper in my clenched fist. He then asked me a series of questions. First he asked me to name a flower.

I told him rose, and he again scribbled some stuff on another piece of paper (on a notebook he tore the earlier piece of paper from). Then he asked me for the size of my family. I told him 10 (which wasn't really accurate come to think of it coz I excluded my parents).

He seemed a little surprised initially, maybe coz he didn't expect it. He wanted to be sure that I was referring to only my immediate family, and then he asked me how many siblings I had. So I told him yes, including myself, it's 10, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Then he scribbled on his notebook again. Finally he asked me for my age and I told him 36. Then here's the bizarre part.

He told me to take the piece of paper in my clenched fist, place it on my forehead and the back of my neck.

Again, being the curious cat that I was, I did it. And he told me to unfold the piece of paper that was with me the whole time. And there it was -- my age, the rose that I mentioned and the number of children in my family!

And then a Chinese uncle who was walking past behind the Sikh guy saw me talking to the latter quietly gestured to me not to talk to the fella. The Sikh guy then told me some personal stuff about myself that was quite true. And then the moment I was waiting for finally came, and he asked me for money.

Now I don't really believe in this kinda stuff and I don't believe in giving money for such things and I refused. He wanted to tell me more but I told him I got to go. He wasn't persistent, though. He said good luck, shook my hand and left. The Chinese uncle later returned (I think he owns a shop nearby).

I called out to him and asked him if he knew the Sikh guy. He told me that he had seen the guy around the area doing the same thing to others. He said he even saw a man giving the Sikh guy some money.

He went on to curse the Sikh guy, calling him a conman and told me I shouldn't talk to such people. I assured told him I had expected the guy to ask for money eventually and that I didn't give him any. Anyway, it was an interesting encounter.

I don't know if the Sikh guy is a conman, and I don't believe that he has some special powers, but all I do have to admit I'm still puzzled how he managed to list down all the details about me on that piece of paper, details that he would never have guessed.

And that piece of paper never left my hand. I'm kinda spooked!
