According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), no Singaporeans were reported to have sustained any heavy injuries following the massive explosions that struck the northeastern Chinese port city of Tianjin yesterday night.

Official reports maintain that 17 people have died from the blast, while 400 more were hospitalized.

MFA says that all 79 registered Singaporeans who live near the area have been contacted, including those working at the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco City, which is 16KM away from the blast.

“MFA will remain in close contact with the Tianjin authorities until all registered Singaporeans are accounted for and to render consular assistance to the affected Singaporeans,” said the spokesperson.

The Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development (SSTEC) has also confirmed that "all our employees are accounted for in the wake of the incident last night at the Tianjin Binhai New Area".

They added that "one Singaporean employee sustained minor cuts and has been treated, while SSTEC’s office buildings sustained superficial damages".
