Dear Editors,
I see this disturbing whatsapp convo circulating online. The malay lady was rejected for a job at SD Perfumes because of her race. The recruiter insisted on hiring only Chinese even though the malay lady could speak Chinese. Is this racial discrimination in Singapore?
Will the Ministry of Manpower and Minister Yaacob Ibrahim look into this and punish this company? We are all Singaporeans and if we have the skills and capability, we should be given chance to work in any job.
Usually when companies say they look for Chinese, it is because they need someone Chinese speaking and okay that is understandable. This case, the malay lady can speak Chinese so it is unacceptable to still be unsuitable for the job! Please give our fellow Singaporean some justice.
