New shorter lease HDB 2-room flats for elderly
I refer to the Straits Times news report “Seniors buying Flexi flats can choose fittings too” (Aug 20).
HDB makes more money?
As the 15 years lease 2-room flats cost as much as $46,700 (without grants) plus the cost of optional fittings – will the HDB make even more money selling 2-room flats with shorter leases?
By recycling these flats every 15, 30 or 45 years against the $110,000 for a 99 years lease – will the HDB make even more money in the future?
Many won’t qualify for grants?
It may look very nice to say that the cheapest flats after grants is $16,700.
But, many of these elderly buyers may be second-timers who may not qualify for grants.
Make more by merging studio & 2-room flats?
Will the HDB make even more money by merging the studio flats into these 2-room flats, as the typical studio cost about $70,000 against the $110,000 for 2-room flats?
Win battles lose war
