The People’s Action Party (PAP) announced that 54 year-old Member of Parliament (MP) David Ong will be its candidate to contest the Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency (SMC) for the upcoming General Elections (GE).
Mr Ong is a managing director for a publishing firm. He was elected as an MP for the Bukit Batok ward in 2011, which fell under Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) then.
Bukit Batok also existed as an SMC from 1972 to 1991.The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) then faced off against the incumbent PAP in two GEs in 1998 and 1991.
SDP Secretary-General Chee Soon Juan has confirmed that the party will contest Bukit Batok SMC again this coming GE.
