In their respective announcements today, People's Action Party (PAP) members of parliament Lim Biow Chuan, a lawyer, and Dr Amy Khor, have announced that they will stand again as the People's Action Party’s (PAP) candidates in the upcoming General Elections - Mr Lim will be staying in his current ward in Mountbatten, while Dr Amy Khor would likewise defend her seat in Hong Kah North.
52 year-old lawyer Mr Lim was a MP for Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC) from 2006 to 2011, before his Mountbatten ward was carved out as a Single Member Constituency (SMC) for the last GE in 2011. Mr Lim won the ward with 58.62 per cent of the vote against fellow lawyer Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss of the National Solidarity Party (NSP). Ms Chong-Aruldoss has already confirmed she will contest the Mountbatten seat again this year, albeit under the Singapore People’s Party (SPP) banner.
57 year-old Dr Khor was an MP for Hong Kah GRC since 2001, but during the last GE in 2011, her ward Hong Kah North was established as a Single Member Constituency (SMC).
On Friday, the Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower and Deputy Government Whip launched a rolling five-year constituency plan and two new programmes to encourage active ageing. The five-year plan will see some blocks in the area undergoing the HDB's Home Improvement Programme and Neighbourhood Renewal Programme. There will also be a fitness hub, family hub and community hub built to foster better ties between residents. The cost of the upgrades will be shared between the town council and the Housing and Development Board, Dr Khor said.
