According to a Facebook post by Singapore People's Party candidate Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss, the SPP will be holding a mega-picnic event at Wilkinson Interim Park today (23rd August) between 5 to 7PM with free food and refreshments for picnic-goers.
Ms Chong-Aruldoss will be representing the SPP in Mountbatten Single Member Constituency (SMC). Ms Chong was formerly an National Solidarity Party (NSP) secretary-general before she quit earlier this year and joined the Singapore People's Party under SPP's Mr Chiam See Tong and his wife, Mrs Lina Chiam.
Ms Chong says that the purpose of the picnic was to better get to know the residents of Mountbatten, who mainly reside in private residences and condominiums.
According to Ms Chong, she says that she could not gain access to private condominiums in the estate because their resident's committees have either rejected her requests for entry or not replied her.
"Unlike Mr Lim Biow Chuan, the incumbent MP, I haven’t been able to hold dialogue sessions in private estates. For instance, Mr Lim recently held a dialogue with residents at a condo in Tanjong Rhu on 17 August. He also visited another condo in Tanjong Rhu for a chit chat session on 29 July 2015, as well as various condominiums for National Day decorating and Funpack distribution." She wrote.
"I’ve been doing my best to get permission from your MCSTs to speak to you for sometime now and have sent out 23 letters to MCSTs around the constituency to request access to speak to you and understand your concerns and hopes for Mountbatten. Unfortunately, of the 23 letters I sent out, 4 condominiums have rejected my requests outright. Another 18 have yet to reply."
However, she added that she was "not discouraged" and is "determined to personally meet as many of Mountbatten’s residents as possible."
