One day, he's the Chief of Defence Force. A few days later, he's the PAP candidate for Pasir Ris - Punggol GRC.
It's come to a point where, in my eyes, it's unconscionable to keep parachuting Generals from the SAF into high political office - not even backbencher roles but ministerial ones within their first term in Parliament. In principle, it's not wrong. But make no mistake - this isn't a one-off event; it has become part of the PAP's new standard practice of leadership renewal. This has to stop.
Groupthink in Cabinet is not something we can afford to risk our nation's future with anymore. We need the kind of robust and diverse views our nation's first Cabinets in the 60s and 70s had, not more potential "yes-men".
