The office of President Tony Tan Keng Yam has released the Writ of Elections at 4PM today, in which he declared that nominations for political candidates would be held on 1st September. In the same hour, the Elections Department of Singapore also released its Press Release on General Elections 2015, which confirmed that polling day would be held on 11th September.
The returning officer for GE2015 will be Mr Ng Wai Choong, CEO of the Energy Market Authority.
Potential candidates will need to pick up their nomination papers from the office of the Returning Officer at Elections Department, 11 Prinsep Link, Singapore 187949, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. These papers would have to be filed with the Elections Department at selected Nomination Places between 11 a.m. and 12 noon on Nomination Day.
Election deposits per candidate will be fixed at $14,500, or 8% of the total allowances payable to a Member of Parliament in the preceding calendar year.
On 11th September (Friday), Singaporeans would be granted a public holiday to cast their vote.
