A post on the People's Action Party's Facebook page has drawn the ire of Singaporean netizens. The infographics post compares the transport fares across various metropolitan cities and claims that Singapore has one of the lowest public transport fares in the world.
The PAP Facebook page posted:
"Do you know Singapore's public transport fares continue to be one of the lowest compared to other metropolitan cities around the world? The purpose of public transport is to provide basic amenity and mobility to Singaporeans. Thus, it is important that the fares remain affordable to the general public."
Do you buy into this claim that Singapore has one of the lowest public transport fares in the world when transport fares have been subject to multiple increases since GE2011. Given the geographical differences between the various cities, is this an appropriate comparison to justify Singapore's frequent adjustment in transport fares?
