Dear Editors,
I had purchased a brand new Chanel Jumbo double flap from an established designer shop located at Far East Shopping Centre, The Attic place.
The boss, julie sold the bag to me at 6.2k. It was a savings of over 1k should I purchase the bag from her instead of a boutique.
Two weeks later, I had a change of heart as I realised the bag was inconvenient me to have around when I am with my toddler. So I decided to sell it off. I had used it once in that two weeks.
I called Julie up and she said she will buy the bag from me at 3.5k. I would have suffered a loss of 2.7k just in 2 weeks. Therefore, I did not sell it back to her.
I advertised in Carousell for 5.8k and there was an interested buyer. I met her in Tampines a few days later to deal. When the buyer had meticulously inspected the bag, the first thing she commented was my bag was very light. She then spotted a crack on the bag eyelets which should not happen since my had was a newly purchased bag.
Of course she did not want to purchase the bag. I called Julie and told her about it. She say i can bring it back to her for a repair. But my gut feeling was telling me to investigate on the bag and so I bought it to Chanel boutique to change the bag eyelets.
Chanel salesperson assured me the company will definitely change the bag parts if the bag was authentic and if it was otherwise, they will return the bag to me. I was made to sign an agreement which stated if the bag was not authentic, Chanel can refuse to repair the bag, they can confiscate the bag for their investigation and will confiscate the authenticity card.
The salesperson could not immediately confirmed if the bag was authenticity so she told me that she will send the bag to their authenticity department for a check. That would take a few days. A few days later, one of their staffs called me and ask for details like from which boutique did I purchased the bag as the serial number of the bag is not in the system.
I then asked Julie for the details and she said the seller who sold her the bag forgot where she purchased the bag and she told me to take the bag from the boutique and return it to her. She will refund me.
I did not do so and waited for the Chanel's judgement on the bag. About 2 months later, Chanel staff called me and confirmed that the bag was not manufactured by Chanel and they are unable to repair the bag and told me to collect the bag.
I called Julie up and she say she will refund me. I told her I do not want just a refund. I wanted a compensation of 1k after going through so much emotional stress and hassle, travelling to and fro. Not mentioning wasting a lot of time.
Julie refused to compensate me.
When I collected the bag from Chanel, the salesperson confiscated the authenticity card and returned to me the bag. I took a picture of the agreement which the slaesperson had took from me. I bought the bag to The Attic Place where I met Julie and showed her the agreement.
It was so messy. Julie was raising her voice, kept denying that the bag wasnt authentic. Even after we showed her the agreement, she was adamant about the bag authenticity and kept saying Chanel was out to make things hard for us which I don't really see the rationale. My husband and I weren't allowed to speak. The moment we spoke, she butted in loudly.
In the end she compensated me $300 on top of the 6.2k refund.
About 1 month later, I received a call from an European lady, A. She introduced herself as the supplier for designer bags. A supplies designer bags to Julie. She apologised for everything I went through and she asked me if I had received the 2.5k compensation which she had told Julie to pass it to me.
Apparently Julie told A that I was pressing for compensation and so A had given cash of 2.5k to julie to compensate me.
I told her I did not received the full 2.5k. I had only received $300 as compensation. I called Julie up and asked if this was true and she confirmed it. She pocketed the money as she claimed she deserved it for going through all the hassle of answering my calls and questions on her part
It has been about 3 months since this whole saga happened. I'm not here to seek the balance money. Initially I kept this whole thing to myself but I felt that I was treated so unfairly in this case. I want to reach out to all bag lovers like myself. For very expensive bags, please purchase it from the boutiques instead of from those second hand designer shops. The aren't as reliable as how they portrayed themselves to be and the shop owners aren't as transparent as how they should be
