The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) turned up bright and early for its morning walkabout at Bukit Timah Market and Food Center yesterday - but what was surprising was the inclusion of Ms Hazel Poa, former secretary-general of the National Solidarity Party (NSP), who was dressed in the SDP's signature red attire.
Ms Poa was seen giving out flyers and also captured in a group photo with the SDP members.
When asked, the SDP replied that Ms Poa was a volunteer and that this was her first time helping with the party. Ms Poa has not given her comments on the matter.
Ms Poa resigned from the NSP earlier this month after a public disagreement with the NSP's Central Executive Committee, who wanted to contest in a Workers' Party claimed ward in MacPherson Single Member Constituency (SMC). She had been a popular candidate for the NSP in the 2011 and was appointed the party's secretary-general that year - the first for a political party in Singapore.
The SDP has since introduced its full list of 11 candidates who will run at the upcoming General Elections, among them SDP chief Chee Soon Juan. It plans to contest Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, and Yuhua SMC.
