Dear editor,
I refer to the news report last month about MOM scrutinsing some 38 firms with a high proportion of foreigners employee.
http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/manpower/mom-places-38-firms-on-wa...
This is a wayang to shift the blame to the companies. MOM is the one who approves their employment passes. Shouldn’t MOM scrutinize their own past approval process? Before MOM approve these employment passes, they are supposed to check the applying firm’s present employment ratio of Singaporean employees vs employment pass holders. In the first place, why do they approve the employment passes if these firms already have a high proportion of foreign employees? So is MOM telling us that they were approving employment passes blindly?
Also, in computing the ratios, they lump Singaporean and PR together with PR considered as locals. This is totally unfair to the true blue Singaporeans who are born here and served NS + annual ICTs.
We really need an alternative voice in parliament to check against all these nonsense.
