When residents at Pasir Ris Punggol group representative constituency (GRC) discovered that election posters for the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) - including a poster showing Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's face - had been torn from their places, they panicked and quickly alerted the police to the alleged "crime".
According to resident Mr Xu, 50, he came across the torn posters at about 9AM the previous day just as he was walking pass Sengkang East road. The posters that were torn were the posters for the PAP representatives of Pasir Ris Punggol East GRC and PM Lee.
Mr Xu told reporters: "Even if you are unhappy with the party or do not support them, this kind of behavior is very inappropriate as it has become a criminal offence. The person who did this was also very careless as there are CCTV cameras surrounding that area, so his actions were surely captured on video."
About an hour after he discovered the torn posters, he returned by the same path again and saw 3 to 4 police vehicles at the scene. A crime scene investigator was allegedly using finger print dust to gather fingerprints from the poster.
