NSP's Cheo Chai Chen cited his twenty years experience as an MP as an advantage in the three-cornered fight in Macpherson SMC. Cheo is facing PAP's Tin Pei Ling and WP's Bernard Chen in the newly carved out ward.
While speaking to the press at NSP headquarters in Jalan Besar, Cheo said: “My Workers’ Party opponent is inexperienced, and I will work hard to get the support of voters.”
He also added that: “The PAP’s Tin Pei Ling has been working very hard. But she has just given birth, so voters should let her go home and rest, and take care of her child...In general, mothers love their children, so they spend a lot of time with them. If voters choose her, she might focus more on her child than on her voters. This is her weakness"
Mr Cheo insisted that NSP's foray into Macpherson was a matter of principle and claimed that the WP is too arrogant. When asked on his chances, he believes that he will do well enough to keep his election deposit and speculated that maybe "it is the Workers Party that will end up losing its deposit"?
