In a statement to the media yesterday, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that they are investigating the drowning of a 7 year-old boy in a swimming pool at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) on Sunday.
The boy was with his family and was playing with a friend at the deeper end of the pool, which can go up to 1.2m deep.
Police were caled to the scene at about 6PM and the boy was taken to the Singapore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to an eye witness staying at the hotel, "a large crowd had gathered when the youngster was puled out and two lifeguards attended to his motionless body before medics arrived."
A relative of the boy, a woman who appeared to be in her 50s, was distraught and had to be carried away on a wheelchair.
An RWS spokesperson says that the hotel is "deeply saddened" by the unfortunate incident and will assist police with investigations. He also added, "Our lifeguards on duty immediately performed CPR for the boy and the paramedics, upon arrival, continued to administer CPR while the ambulance was activated. The team also provided assistance to the family on site."
