69 year-old Mr Yao Long Xiang looked on helplessly as he watched the taxi hurtle towards him at high speed which had gone out of control and was unable to stop.
As other people in front of him ran to safety, Mr Yao, who is wheelchair bound, was left alone to face the impact of the crash. Staring death in the face, Mr Yao's only thought was "This is it. Gone."
Thankfully, the taxi crashed into a metal barrier in front of Mr Yao and came to a stop just 2 meters away from Mr Yao.
Mr Yao and several others were waiting at a Clementi taxi stand yesterday at around 3.30PM when the accident happened. Mr Yao said he was waiting at the taxi stand with a bag of items. There were about five people in the queue ahead of him.
The impact crushed the taxi's bonnet. The taxi driver remained in the vehicle after the crash, his right arm injured during the accident. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
A police spokesman said the 55-year-old cabby was conveyed conscious to hospital.
