A man who physically abused his maid over five months in 2012 was sentenced to four weeks' jail on Wednesday (June 17).
Muhamad Al-Hafiz Nordin, 31, who was then working as a banquet manager, had slapped and hit the Indonesian domestic worker on various occasions at his Punggol HDB flat between April and August 2012.
The torrent of abuse eventually prompted the maid to escape from the 3rd-storey HDB flat by climbing out of the window, scaling down to the 2nd storey before jumping to the ground floor on Aug 7, 2012.
The court also heard that the maid went from 64kg to 44kg - a loss of 20kg - although the defence has argued that her weight loss was not caused by Muhamad Al-Hafiz or his family.
Muhamad Al-Hafiz's wife, Nuraini Hassan, 30, is also facing charges of maid abuse. Her case is still pending.
