A group of local teenagers - 3 boys aged 14, 18 and 20, and a girl aged 16 - were rescued from MacRitchie Reservoir on Sunday evening after they got lost in the sprawling nature reserve.
The group had planned on a leisurely hike in the nature reserve on Sunday but somehow got lost while trekking through the thick vegetation.
A rescue team of officers from the Singapore Police Force, the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Public Utilities Board were mobilized to comb the reservoir for the teenagers, who were found at about 8.20PM in a swampy area near the ruins of a shrine built during the Japanese Occupation. According to wildlife consultant Subaraj Rajathurai, 52, the shrine area is "out of bounds" to the public. The group did not say how they managed to enter the area.
