A Singaporean was crowned world champion last week at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (WPJJC).
Kon Hui Quek, 39, became the first local to win a world title in professional jiu jitsu when he emerged tops in the 75kg Brown Belt Male Masters 2 category.
It is understood that although a Singaporean has won in the World Jiu Jitsu Championship - a separate tournament organised by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) - the tournament is considered a non-professional event as it does not have a cash prize like the WPJJC.
