An unoccupied Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A330-300 crashed nose first into the tarmac this morning at Changi Airport Terminal 3. According to first hand photos, the plane's nose gear had retracted, causing the plane to tilt forward.
In response to reporter queries, SIA said the nose gear of the aircraft was undergoing a landing gear check at about 8AM at Gate A17. SIA confirmed that there were no passengers or crew on board except for an engineer. The engineer did not sustain any injuries.
The plane registered as SQ835 had last flown from Shanghai into Singapore at 12.49AM the same day. It was due to fly to Hong Kong that same morning.
