In a reminder published on Friday (23 October 2015), Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) told members of the public that its officers are empowered by law to conduct travel document and baggage checks on all travellers. This reminder comes after a traveller "P J Wong" made an online fuss after he was stopped by an ICA officer for random luggage checks.

ICA said in its reminder: "Checkpoints are our first line of defence and security checks are critical to safeguard Singapore's security... Additional checks and/or interviews may be conducted when necessary".

The agency will not hesitate to take firm action against travellers who refuse to comply with these random security checks.

The complainant "P J Wong" has since apologised for his actions on Facebook.
