On Monday morning, train service along the North East Line was disrupted for more than 2 hours due to a power fault. SBS transit said that this was due to a damaged overhead power system as a new train was returning to the depot in the wee hours of Monday morning.

From 5.23am till 7.21am, no trains were available from Punggol to Harbourfront stations. Free bus rides were activated along the NEL and this free bus service was extended islandwide due to the ongoing O and A level examinations.

Although service was restored at 7.21am, commuters still faced additional 20 minutes of travelling time causing great inconvenience to the early morning peak hour crowd.

SBS Transit CEO Gan Juay Kiat said: "We deeply apologise for the disruption".
