<ST Forum Letter>
The prosperity gospel becomes controversial when believers respond to the words with the wrong motive and selfish attitude, treating God as their god of fortune, when it should be about giving as a form of worship and sacrifice based on faith.
Despite CHC going rogue with how it tried to evangelise with Ms Ho Yeow Sun's skimpy appearance, the church has made valuable and positive impact in the community.
CHC is among the pioneer megachurches in Singapore and has helped restore many broken lives and families.
Every week, I see CHC members doing community work, such as accompanying lone elders to hospitals for medical appointments, exterminating bedbugs, tutoring poor children and rendering help to less privileged families.
Ms Ho, also known as Sun Ho, counselled troubled teens and gave donations to help victims of the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan, China.
Her donations have also helped build schools in Chongqing and Henan in China, and have helped displaced families in Indonesia.
I hope CHC will rise again in fortitude in its charitable work locally and overseas.
