In an interview with Malaysia's Bernama news agency, Indonesian VP Jusuf Kalla told other neighbouring countries to follow the attitude of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who proposed measures to resolve the haze problem rather than just criticize Indonesia.
Mr Jusuf Kalla said:
“Indonesia is thankful to Pak Najib and everyone, there is formal agreement at the ASEAN level on the fires ... if necessary to resolve the problems together, Indonesia is grateful for the joint efforts."
He shared how Najib made suggestions such as the building of tube wells to help Indonesia control their fires.
Mr Kalla repeated his stance that the haze was blown there by the wind and that was something which Indonesia cannot control. He later reiterated that neighbouring countries should help one another during difficult times. Similarly during good times, Indonesia has provided fresh air from its forests to the neighbouring countries.
In September during the onset of the haze, Mr Kalla insisted that Indoensia need not apologise to its neighbours for the haze.
