We Singaporeans have been taught, told and cajoled to use our infrastructure in a specific way. The social engineering is not a bad thing as we all come to agreement to what we should do and how we should behave. Like, we dont throw things from our HDB windows, we accept that Chinese New Year is a noisey affair past midnight on CNY eve, and music from the gongs and drums during Malay weddings is part of life, and it is normal that we smell curry from our Indian neighbours, and so on, and so on.
Foreigners were not brought up with our norms, laws and expectations.
Why would these imports behave like us and understand our laws and practices the moment they receive a blue IC?
Oh, but I guess we do think that they undergo a mental transformation when they receive their blue IC, because we also think our ministers go through the same mental transformation when they join the PAP or when they are sworn into the parliament.
Whoever was a doctor became an expert in all transport matters the moment he became transport minister, whoever was too young to have witnessed the setting up of some flawed policies began to speak up for those policies as if he knew all about them and had a personal hand in setting them up the moment he joined the ruling party.
