SDP Chairman Jeffrey George has been arrested for drug related offences by the Central Narcotics Bureau. Even though details of his arrest have not been released yet, the CNB say that investigations are still on-going.
Jeffrey George was elected to be the chairman of the SDP in October 2013 and served as the election agent for party Secretary-General Dr Chee Soon Juan and Vice-Chairman John Tan at the last General Elections in September 2015.
Dr Chee has expressed his shock at the arrest and said "I have known Jeff for many years and all this time he has discharged his duties as an SDP member and leader with professionalism. He is respected and well-liked by his party colleagues. This is why the matter is all the more a complete surprise." He also requested for the family of Jeffrey George to be left alone as they go through this difficult period.
