First term MP for Nee Soon GRC Louis Ng announced that he would step away from his post at least once a month to take on various work stints to put himself in their shoes and understand what is really happening on the ground.
In his Facebook post, Mr Ng explained: “To really understand and really see what's happening on the ground and to be able to make a difference, I want to gain some first-hand experience. And so, every month, I will try a different profession and literally put myself in their shoes."
His first work stint will be at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital where he will experience the life of a healthcare worker, he claims he "will do everything a healthcare worker does in his or her normal shift and do an actual shift at the hospital". After his KTPH stint, he intends to work as a taxi driver, a coffee shop assistant, cleaner and a secondary school student.
He hopes that these work stints will help him gain more experience and allow him to draft better questions and improve policies in Singapore.
