A Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcement officer, who was suspended from all duties after a video of him and an Uber driver fighting went viral online, was arrested by the police in the wee hours of this morning.
In the video, the LTA officer was shown punching an aggressive Uber driver until passersby intervened.
According to the LTA statement on its Facebook page, the officer had been suspended from all duties with immediate effect. Upon completing their investigations this afternoon, LTA confirmed that the Singaporean enforcement officer's services would be terminated.
"LTA apologises for this unfortunate incident and we would like to reassure the public that all our enforcement officers have to abide to a strict set of procedures when carrying out their duties," it said. "We have also reminded all LTA enforcement officers that any violent behaviour in the course of carrying enforcement duties will not be tolerated.”
Certis CISCO also released a statement saying its contractual agreement with LTA ended in October 2015 and that the officer involved in the incident is not its employee.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) also confirmed that a 50-year-old man has been arrested while the 59-year-old old Uber driver is also currently assisting with investigations.
