HANGING LAUNDRY AT STAIRCASE LANDING, TOWN COUNCIL SAY OKAY WHILE SCDF SAY ILLEGAL

Dear Editors,

Singapore now is no longer the country I once know, we have got many ministries/departments and their responsibilities overlapped each other, so when somethings goes wrong they will just point fingers and no one will take responsibility. Take hanging of laundry and illegal occupation of space in HDB's staircase landing for example. Under SCDF website, it is absolutely clear that nothing is to be allowed in those space as indicated in the picture from SCDF.

However, the former Sembawang town council, claimed that it is acceptable because there are sufficient space. I have attached the second photo. Please tell me how different is this from the picture from SCDF? This completely contradicted what SCDF has stated in their safety website. So who has actually got jurisdiction in such matter? SCDF or Town Council? If there is a fire and some casualties because of these obstructions, will thesetwo department then start pointing fingers and passing the blame to each other??

Why does SCDF set standards and allow town councils to override them? Why are safety issues being compromised?
