SPCA ADOPTION CAMPAIGN: HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE SHELTER?

Dear good people of All Singapore Stuff,

I hope this email finds you well. I have a project for The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), that I’d like to share with you.

As you know, for many years people have grown up singing “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?”. It’s a song most people know.

What most people don’t know, however, is that in 2009, before the singer of the song Patti Page died, she re-recorded another version of the song with different lyrics, entitled “Do You See That Doggie in the Shelter?”.

Patti Page wanted her famous tune to be no longer about pet stores, many of which get their pets from unethical and cruel puppy mills, but for animal shelters and homeless animals instead. Unfortunately, her new version of the song remains largely unknown.

But this could be all about to change. Because SPCA Singapore is determined to spread and share this new version of the song with everyone, everywhere. And to do that, we have spent a year producing a children’s picture book, and an animated sing-along music video.

Together, we have also come to agreement with Singapore’s National Library Board to place our books in libraries island-wide. These books have also been given to schools worldwide.

As for the video, not only has it been released online, it has also been playing on outdoor digital media all across Singapore, and was screened via Animal Planet’s and Discovery Kids' Asia-Pacific network over the month of October.

Unfortunately, we have not made quite as much progress on social media. And that is where most of today’s kids are – folks who could well be thinking of getting a pet this year. That is why, we hope that you can share our project on your website and social media.

With your help, we can help fulfill the late Patti Page’s dream. And go one step closer to a world where kids sing this song, and choose adoption over buying.
