The Singapore Police announced that they have seized firearms from the Singapore Gun Club and Singapore Rifle Association after serious licensing irregularities were found. After an audit by the Police Licensing and Regulatory Department, more than 70 guns from the armoury of the two gun clubs had licensing irregularities . These guns belonged to members who were deceased, quit or have left Singapore.
All shooting activities with exception for National Team training has been stopped and Sports Singapore confirmed in a statement that the closure was due to the missing guns.
As a result of this unexpected closure, a shooting competition between Japan and Singapore has been cancelled. The Singapore Shooting Association has been tasked to remedy the situation before reopening for public use.
