I was boarding a Bus 67 this evening and this Indian bus captain was happily greeting commuters on. An elderly macik who was infront of me moved up slowly and wanted to put a note into the coin box for her fares.
The bus driver quickly stopped her and ask what she was doing. It was then I realized she wanted to put a $10 note in. She helplessly told the bus driver she does not have any small change on her.
To her surprised, the bus driver then looked at her said "Macik, No problem lah, next time dont like that arh" and he asked her to move in. I was busy digging my coins to help pay for her but he told me no problem also.
A story about an act of kindness may be common but if it's among 3 separate races then perhaps its something you'll only see in Singapore.
To me, this is what Racial harmony is all about and we should always remember that. Majulah Singapura
