A 32 year old Russian Singapore Management University Juris Doctorate student unlawfully deleted his and 18 other student's exam scripts when he realised he would fare badly in the exams. Georgy Kotsaga believed that by deleting the scripts, he would get to retake the examinations. Fortunately, SMU's IT systems made real time back ups for all examination scripts and everything was recovered.
Worried that his GPA would fall below 3.0, Kotsaga bought a USB keylogger from Sim Lim Square and planted it on desktop computers in the professors' respective classrooms. In doing so, he managed to capture their login id and passwords.
After the examination where he had difficulties answering the questions, he accessed his Professor's account to view the examination script of another student. When he realised he would fare badly, he deleted all 19 examination scripts. for the module. He realised that he would not do very well and deleted all 19 examination scripts.
For unauthorised access and modificaton of computer materials, Kotsaga was jailed 2 months. He could have been jailed up to 2 years for his offence.
