British transport company Go-Ahead announced their compensation package for bus drivers and heated up the competition for bus drivers in Singapore. Singapore drivers will get a minimum starting salary of $1,865 and get a sign-on bonus ranging from $1,000 to $2,000. This pay package is similar to that offered by Australian operator Tower Transit.
Go-Ahead further sweetened the deal by throwing in annual allowance of $430-$830, 16 to 26 weeks of maternity leave, 2 days eldercare leave and 6 days of childcare leave. Their staff will also get unlimited travel on all public bus and MRT services in Singapore.
The starting salaries offered by Go-Ahead and Tower Transit are more attractive than that offered by the incumbents SBS and SMRT. An SBS's bus driver's starting pay is $1,775, while SMRT's is $1,625.
