A reader sent us this depressing story shared by Roy Chuang, a local photographer on Faceboook, who helped pay for a meal for a poor pioneer generation uncle who could not afford a decent meal.
Read his post here.
"There is seriously something wrong with Singapore...
Today while I was buying "mixed rice" for late lunch, there was a very old man (at least 70 + yrs old) lining up behind me... he couldn't even stand up straight...
He was wearing a "Security" pass... working as a security guard.
As I was paying for my meal, I saw him ordering just plain rice, one egg and one vegetables... I asked him if he was going home... he told me he was going to work, 2nd shift... 12 hours.
I told the store Lady to add some pork, and chicken drumstick for him and bought him his meal...
I think that's the least I could do...
What I don't understand is...
Why Singapore, being a so called Developed country... do not care or do enough for the Pioneers???
Don't tell me they are working for fun... they can't even afford a proper meal...
When he heard that his mixed Rice is $6.00, he was like... "huh? So expensive?!!!"
If he can't even afford a $5-6 meal at his age, then our Government is definitely not doing enough! He even have to choose his food to make sure it doesn't exceed $2....
What kind of retirement is this?
Roy Chuang"
