In what looks to be another public consultation boo-boo by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), residents of Katong, Marine Parade, Paya Lebar, Serangoon, Sengkang, Ang Mo Kio and Yio Chu Kang will have their regular trunk service, bus 76, cut by the end of March.
Bus 76, which plies the route between Marine Parade and Yio Chu Kang, will be replaced by two separate bus services, 134 and 150. Bus 76 will have its journey shortened and will end its route at Eunos Bus Interchange, instead of making the long but convenient journey to Yio Chu Kang.
Not surprisingly, the move to amend Bus 76's route has met with fierce opposition from long time riders, who have expressed their unhappiness with an online petition, created by an anonymous Singaporean.
The petition description reads: "Katong, Marine Parade, Paya Lebar, Serangoon, Sengkang, Ang Mo Kio and Yio Chu Kang residents, I'm sure everyone has heard about the recent amendment of Service 76, and I'm sure nobody is satisfied and positively impacted by it.
As we all know 76 isn't a new route, it's served residents along the route for years, everyone's used to snoring from one end to the other and I'm sure nobody will want to change buses which will cause long term problems such as more buses on the roads and more overcrowded bus stops. It's not happening, it won't be happening, and we need your support!"

Will you support your fellow commuters and demand that LTA reinstate Bus 76?
