A Government advisory panel tasked to study the use of electric bicycles and other mobility devices in Singapore has recommended that motorised bicycles be required to register their bikes. Registration would aid enforcement officials in taking action against riders who flout the rules or illegally modify their e-bikes.

The panel also recommended that electric bikes be banned from using footpaths to protect vulnerable pedestrians. Other mobility devices like scooters, hoverboards or wheelchairs should be allowed on footpaths where pedestrians are.

Strict speed limits of 15kmh on footpaths and 25 kmh on cycling paths were also recommended regardless of the type of mobility device.
