In a tongue in cheek post on his Facebook page, Workers' Party MP Chen Show Mao has wished both the People's Action Party (PAP) candidate Murali Pillai and Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) chief Dr Chee Soon Juan good luck for their upcoming election. He also added cheekily that voters should send one of the two candidates to parliament, while keeping the other candidate for Paya Lebar residents - a reference to Murali's failed electoral contest in GE2016 under Aljunied GRC.
Read his comment here:
"A BOY'S PRAYER. Good luck to Dr Chee. Good luck to Mr Murali. More important than either of them -- Best of luck to Singapore. Since both are lovely men by most accounts, why don't we send one of them to Parliament and keep the other in Paya Lebar where we live?
P.S.《胡说八道》LEAKY JUNK
Cometh the hour, some people have taken to telling me about how constituents of the division Paya Lebar of Aljunied GRC voted for the candidates Muralidharan Pillai and Chen Show Mao in the last GE. Apparently they have even seen purported vote counts! I tell them I'm not so sure. It's not just because all voters of Aljunied GRC were presented with a simple choice between a slate of five WP candidates vs. five PAP candidates. And it's not just because of the oath of secrecy sworn by those who witnessed the vote count (and which ballots were recently incinerated). It's also because voters from more than one division of Aljunied GRC voted in the polling centres in the division Paya Lebar, and had their votes counted together out of the ballot boxes. So tell me again what you know for sure...

In response, SDP's Chee Soon Juan expressed his thanks to Chen and expressed his hope that he would be able to work together with Chen and his party when he is elected into parliament.
"I want to thank Mr Chen Show Mao for his kind words. I've always been an admirer of his. I hope to get into Parliament to work with him and his colleagues to make Singapore a better place.
A shout-out also to fellow opposition parties - looking forward to a one-to-one contest with Mr Murali."
