Residents staying in the vicinity of Block 394, Yishun Avenue 6 witnessed a tragic incident yesterday night, when a 17 year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 12th storey of the building.
According to eye witnesses, at about 8PM yesterday, neighbors suddenly heard a loud crash, followed by the wails of the deceased girl's mother, who ran out of her home with her young son to the foot of the block where her daughter's body lay. The woman was so distraught that she collapsed crying beside her daughter, her cries heard by all the neighboring blocks.
Based on interviews with the family, 17 year-old Ong Si Ying, a student at a local polytechnic, may have been troubled by her boyfriend's attempt to end their 2 year relationship. The family had discovered a message on Si Ying's phone from the boyfriend, also a student at the same polytechnic, telling her that he needed to be alone.
Neighbors said that the family was a close knit one, and that Si Ying's boyfriend was often seen waiting for her at the foot of her block. However, they also confirmed that they had seen less and less of the boyfriend recently.
Police are investigating the case of unnatural death.
