NuTonomy, a driverless car startup that branched out of Massachusetts Institute of Technology three years ago, is looking to operate a fully autonomous taxi service in Singapore. The company passed its first driving test in Singapore last month.
The firm had raised $3.6 million in seed funding in January.
This is how the service works. Just by using a mobile phone, you can call a self-driving car for pick up, make your destination known, sit back and let the car will take you to your destination.
The term fully autonomous refers to a Level 4 autonomy where there is full self-driving automation. A Level 4 autonomous vehicle "is designed to perform all safety-critical driving functions and monitor roadway conditions for an entire trip."
Presently, Google is testing cars with Level 3 autonomy where humans are sometimes needed to take the wheel, on public roads in the United States.
