The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force have received an application by the Singapore Color Run organizers for a permit to hold their event, said the SPF in a statement today. The agencies will be considering the safety aspects of the run before deciding on whether to grant the go-ahead.
This follows a tragic incident in Taiwan, New Taipei City, where flammable powder ignited a crowd of revelers who were there for Color Play Asia at the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park last weekend. The fire injured over 500 people, with 180 of them in intensive care units, and caused the death of 1 20 year-old Taiwanese girl who sustained 90% burns on her body.
The joint SPF and SCDF statement:
"The Singapore Police Force has received applications for the Color Run event. The SPF and SCDF are studying the Taiwan fire incident and working with the event organiser on the use of coloured powder at the event. We will assess all safety aspects associated with the use of coloured powder, before granting any approval for the Color Run or other similar events."
