SIGN PUT UP AS MALL DID NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE IF CUSTOMERS SLIPPED ON MUDDY FLOOR

A day after a sign at Leisure Park Kallang, reading "No entry to all NDP uniform personnel", went viral online and caused a huge social media furore, a security guard working for the mall has come out to explain why the management chose to put up the discriminatory sign.

About 900 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team were in the area yesterday to rehearse for the Aug 9 show taking place at the Padang.

However, a heavy downpour had left those involved in the rehearsal drenched and seeking shelter. The sign was thus put up at about 10AM after the mall management noticed that soldiers were running for cover in the mall and making the floor wet.

Fearing that other customers would slip and fall on the wet floors, the management put up the sign to bar entry for all NDP uniform personnel, but later removed the signage before lunch time.

"We have nothing against the army boys... we just do not want to bear any liabilities if other customers slip and fall," the guard said.

Attempts to reach property developer Jack Investment, which manages Leisure Park Kallang, were not successful.

A spokesman for the NDP executive committee said it spoke to the mall's management and "resolved the matter".
