37 year-old Hwang Eunmi offered 5 local policemen up to $1,550 in cash to avoid arrest for prostitution, but was rejected on the spot and reported to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) instead.
Hwang indicated in court on Friday that she intends to plead guilty. Bail was set at S$10,000. The case will be heard again on Jul 10.
In its statement, the CPIB said: "Singapore adopts a zero tolerance approach towards corruption". It takes a serious view of any corrupt practices and will not hesitate to take action against any party involved in such acts.
If convicted, Hwang will be fined up to $100, 000, sentenced to up to five years' jail or both.
