HELP! SPF CONDUCTING RANDOM CHECKS WITHOUT VALID REASON?

Hi.

I was standing outside JCUBE at Jurong East yesterday afternoon and was approached by two police officers, claiming to be doing a "Routine Check".

I asked them the reason(s) for checking my NRIC. They did not state any specific reason despite my inquiry.

I am aware the Police only has a right to ask for identification if one is suspected of criminal activity.

Are my Civil Rights being violated here?
