The Singapore People's Party (SPP) has not ruled out its secretary-general Chiam See Tong from contesting in the upcoming elections.The 80 year-old Chiam was recently spotted at party walkabouts despite haing suffered 2 strokes in recent years.
Mr Chiam was member of parliament for Potong Pasir for 27 years until 2011, when he moved out of his constituency and led a team to contest Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC in the general elections then. His team garnered 43.07% of the popular vote.
Yesterday, his wife and non-constituency MP Lina Chiam, who also contested in 2011, neither denied nor confirmed his participation, saying that "everything is fluid."
“There could be changes here and there, so I would not like to comment at the moment,” said Mrs Chiam, who is SPP chairman.
