THINK ABOUT IT: IS THE PAP STILL RELEVANT TODAY?

$

Dear Editors,

Last time PAP members fought for Singaporeans’ rights. Dr. Tan Cheng Bock push for us to be able to use our CPF to fund higher education because it was good investment for the future. It was small things like that which cause us to improve our lives. Let’s think about it really.

At that time, parents won’t be financially strained from university fees and the result of having a better educated workforce also helped boost Singapore’s knowledge-based transformation in that era. People are thankful and voted for Dr. Tan for 5 terms with average 77%. Now people are angry!
Today, PAP has changed and now spend more than $240 million a year of taxpayer’s money on scholarships and tuition grants to foreign student. Locals have to suffer from the opportunity costs of a 2-year NS and they are burdened with loans long after graduation.

Look at all these millionaire ministers who don’t even talk sense because they are too disconnected with the ground thanks to their million dollar salaries. How will they add value to the policy making processes as compared to those people in parliament in the 1980s who are so much more hands on?

Some netizen said that opposition movement was censored by PAP and LKY so badly that no one had the balls to act as a check on their “20/20” lack of foresight. Even as PAP try to make changes after GE2011, BTO is still not affordable and country still have infrastructural strain like crowded MRT.

PAP government and their supporters have also start to act arrogant and self-entitled. They have spoken on high grounds and as can be seen in their “words of wisdom” like Tin Pei Ling and Koh Poh Koon. If you are paying top dollar for such quality of people then it really becomes a cruel joke!

Nicholas-Seth Leong who himself is no big deal degrade MRT commuters as “common people” and “peasants” just because he had to take the MRT. Later he was so embarrassed that he had to deactivate his FB after people found out that he drove and old Honda Civic anyway.

It’s like choosing to work for a company which not only the bosses are incompetent, damn show off but also push all the work and blame to you, talk down on you all the time and then when things go well they enjoy the rewards themselves, receive high bonus while they don’t care about you at all!

Why do we need such people? If PAP cannot improve our lives then maybe time to vote them out.

This has precisely always been the truth until pap ibs distort it and frame WP.

All the bidders are pap lackeys who are dependent on pap projects to made a living.

Ever since WP win over that ward in the election the pap have been sore about it and no one dare to bid and work for WP for fear of incurring PAP wrath and losing their projects and business in the future.

WP face with the issue of needing to service the community they are tasked to take care found themselves have money(公款)but no bidders daring to accept their projects thus WP have no choice but to look among their own supporters to settle the issues.

The supporters of WP are mostly underdogs and suppressed common people in society with small business and humble means.

They can't take on such a big project and thus in order to made these business grow and develop into entities that are large enough to take care of the projects the WP have to pay higher than market rates to help them build up their business first before these towkays can help WP and the people in that ward effectively.

Pap and their hantus see a chance to attack and accuse WP of practising nepotism and mishandling of public funds.

This is all dirty politics and scum behaviours.

Pap instil fear in their loyalists and no one dare to take on WP tender to do work.

Under this type of circumstances what would you expect WP to do?

Friends please vote in worker party if they come to your ward in the upcoming election.

Vote in people who care for you and our country not people who care only for their own pockets.

The more opposition in Parliament the less time pap have ways to come up with self serving policies to screw you.

Pap fear WP that is why they harm and do political fixing on WP for an entire 5 years since the last election until now instead of using the time to solve the fundamental problems which their policies have cause Singaporeans to face everyday.

Despite winning men's and women's 100m races on Tuesday, celebrations for the Philippines' 2 foreign sprinters was short-lived. To Filipino fans in the stadium, it became glaringly obvious that Eric Cray and Kayla Richardson both wore the Philippines flag upside down, with the red rather than the blue on top.

According to Filipino websites, the country flag is only inverted when it is officially at war. No one has stepped forward to claim responsibility for the embarassing episode.

"It must have been an oversight," a Philippines presidential spokesperson said, and added that she hoped the error would be rectified.

This comes on the tails of a controversy over the 2 United States-born athletes, who some fans accused of having little to do with the Philippines other than their Filipino parentage.

26 year-old Cray, who won gold in his race with a time of 10.25sec, had switched to representing the Philippines in 2011, whereas Richardson has only been in the Philippines once for a holiday. She won her race in 11.76sec.

MALAYSIAN AUTHORITIES APOLOGIZE FOR FORCING WOMAN TO WEAR SARONG

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JHJ) has issued a public apology after opposition parliamentarians questioned the need to make the middle-aged woman wear a "sarong" around her skirt in order to receive service at its department. Some parliamentarians asked if this incident meant that Malaysia would soon become a fundamentalist Muslim country.

The woman, Ms Suzanna G L Tan, had posted on social media to complain about her treatment at the JHJ, and attached pictures of herself dressed normally and with the sarong draped around her waist.

In the aftermath of the uproar in parliament, the JHJ later issued a public apology to Ms Tan and admitted it was not part of the department’s policy to provide such a garment to visitors.

“RTD would like to apologise to Ms Tan for the inconvenience caused,” the department said in a statement. “RTD would like to firmly state that there is no regulation that indicates visitors must be provided with a sarong. Clearly, this was an inconvenience to the visitor,” the department said on Twitter yesterday afternoon.

However, the JHJ maintained that it imposes a strict dress code on all visitors like all other Malaysian government departments, and cited the example that men should not wear shorts or pants that are too tight.

INVESTORS HIRE DEBT COLLECTORS TO CHASE DOWN BUSINESSMAN WHO CHEATED $1.37M

A group of 15 investors chased a dishonest businessman all over the island yesterday in a bid to get back their money.

After 54 year-old swindler Mr Simon Ng failed to show up at an agreed meeting with his investors at Geylang Lorong 41 in the afternoon, the angry investors traveled to his Toa Payoh flat and confronted him, before showing up at his lawyer's Changi office.

Ng, a Singaporean, had collected $1.37 million from around 20 people since last year. To convince people to invest in his "business", he flew investors to expensive overseas seminars on all-expenses-paid trips in Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia.

Last week, investors hired debt collection agency JMS Rogers to chase Ng for their money. The debt collectors had accompanied the investors to Ng's Toa Payoh flat at about 2PM. When they knocked on the door, a woman answered and told them that Ng was not at home and called the police.

When police arrived, Ng emerged from hiding in his flat and told police officers that he was being harassed by debt collectors. He claims that he had lodged a similar report last week.

When Ng tried to leave for his lawyer's office in Changi, investors confronted him at the carpark near his flat, demanding to know what happened to the money. A video of the incident has been posted online.

In the video, he told investors that the multi-level marketing scheme had fallen through, adding in Mandarin, "I'm a victim too. I lost $100,000 investing in the scheme."

He repeated his explanation outside of his lawyer's Changi office when investors approached him again 2 hours later. The group lingered into the night, with the situation looking no closer to a settlement.

"We want an explanation," said 40 year-old former security officer C. G. Lim, who quit his job because Ng had convinced him that he would earn more from the scheme. "I was trying to provide a better life for my wife and 2 children. I even got my mother to invest."

58 year-old Madam Normah Ahmed was also cheated of her life savings of $30,000. She had hoped that the scheme could fund her medical expenses, which range from $1,000 to $5,000 a month.

"I did not want to burden my children with the financial burden, so I invested my hard-earned money, hoping I could be self-sufficient," she said.

NSP'S KEVRYN LIM IS THE HOTTEST POLITICAL STARLET IN SINGAPORE

$

Netizens have been sending us questions about the mysterious girl spotted at the National Solidarity Party's (NSP) "Meet & Greet" walkabout, which was held in the evening of 27th May at Serangoon Central. NSP candidates have been working hard and conducting frequent walkabouts in the Marine Parade GRC ward in preparation for upcoming elections.

At first, there seemed to be very little information about the mysterious hottie, who struck a cute figure among the more senior and serious figures in the NSP walkabout team. One particular photo that caught every eligible bachelor's eye was a shot where the young lady struck a "V for Victory" pose while posing gamely for a candid camera photo. The shot was taken by a fellow NSP team member, who later uploaded the pictures to the NSP Facebook.

But the wait is over, it seems. A reader has come forward with information on the young political starlet, who goes by the name Kevryn Lim Tong Zhen

Kevryn, who currently runs her own event management and digital marketing firm, EM DM, while holding down a position as a Project Manager at WOW Productions, is definitely not your run-of-the-mill political lightweight.

According to her Linkedin profile, she holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications, Public Relations and Film & TV from the Curtin University of Technology, as well as a Masters in Professional Communication from the same university.

She also participated actively as a student volunteer to help the less fortunate during her studies overseas, and even co-founded the Curtin Student United Way, a youth leadership program that gives its members the chance to make a difference in their communities by building up their communities in the areas of education, income and health.

Kevryn even served as an online radio presenter on Radio Television Hong Kong, making her a mini-celebrity in her own right!

Our reader also informed A.S.S. that Kevryn had worked as a model for a few years. This comes as no surprise, given Kevryn's lithe frame and attractive features.

The reader has generously submitted some photos below of Kevryn during her modelling days, all of which confirm that Kevryn might just be the hottest political star to hit Singapore politics since Nicole Seah.

Take a look, you might be impressed!

S'PORE SECRETLY SPENDING BILLIONS OF RESERVES TO PROP UP WEAK SGD?

$
0
0

Billions of reserves used to prop up SGD

According to the Yahoo news report “Billions of reserves being used to prop up weak SGD” (Mar 13, 2015) – “Singapore is spending billions of reserves to prop up its currency, a report by DBS revealed.

According to DBS, Singapore’s reserves have fallen by US$34 billion since July, a trade-off of keeping the SGD on its appreciation path.

“In six short months, reserves have fallen by the equvialent of 11% of a full year’s GDP.”

“Known” use vs “unknown” use of the reserves?

This is a case of the reserves being used that is known to the outside world.

But, what about the use of the reserves in the past, which was not disclosed to anyone?

Reserves were used 55 times

Well, in reply to a question by NCMP Mrs LinaChiam in Parliament in July, 2013 – it was disclosed that “past reserves have been drawn on 55 times since 2002 for land acquisition and development purposes …

Out of this, 23 projects were to create new land by reclamation from the sea or underground excavation.

The remaining 32 occasions were for land acquisition costs, like the Selective En Bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS), in which the Government redevelops existing HDB estates into housing that uses the land more intensively.”

Not drawdown because from financial assets to state land?

Mr Tharman said that tapping past reserves in this way is “in essence a conversion of past reserves from one form (financial assets) to another (state land), rather than a drawdown of reserves”.

In this connection, I came across a very interesting article from which some parts are reproduced below.

“I would like to refer to the article “Reserves: ‘No’ to dipping into coffers” (Straits Times, Apr 19, 2013).

Dipped into the past reserves only once?

It states that “The Government has dipped into the past reserves only once. In 2009, it obtained the President’s approval to draw down $4.9 billion from past reserves to fund special schemes in the light of Singapore’s worse recession since independence. In 2011, it put back all the money – $4 billion – it used into the reserves.”

Used more than 27 times, but nobody knows?

Contrary to the above, “President Nathan revealed just before he left the presidency (August, 2011), that the past reserves have been used more than 27 times since 2002, for projects like land reclamation and the Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme (Sers)”. (“President guards Reserves: Really?“, Aug 24, 2011; “How much of the Reserves has been really used?“, Aug 10, 2011)

So now, if not for NCMP Mrs LinaChiam’s question, no one would have known that the Reserves have been used 55 times, instead of the 27 times disclosed by our former President.

President also don’t know it was 55 times?

Why did our past President reveal that the Reserves has been used 27 times, when it was actually used 55 times?

Before 2002, never use is it?

Since the reply in Parliament now says “Past reserves have been drawn on 55 times since 2002″– does it mean that the Reserves were never used before 2002?

If this is indeed the case, then why say “since 2002″?

As to “tapping past reserves in this way is “in essence a conversion of past reserves from one form (financial assets) to another (state land), rather than a drawdown of reserves”” – the issue may be not what the drawdown in essence means, but why it was never disclosed?

Rainy day only?

Singaporeans have been told that the Reserves would only by used for a rainy day, and until our former President’s disclosure just before he left office, all of us were given the impression that the Reserves was only used once for the Job Credit scheme during the 2009 recession.

Pecuniary interest?

Also, allow me to use an analogy to illustrate a possible issue – Let’s say my bonus depends on GDP growth. I use the Reserves to reclaim land and SERS. So, in essence I may be pumping money into the economy (kind of like “Quantitative Easing” (QE) (For further reading: 2009-13 QE bubble)). In so doing, am I not in a way increasing GDP and thus indirectly my bonus too?

Under reporting Budget expenditure?

Let’s try to explore the use of the Reserves further. When land is reclaimed, we may be increasing GDP, and under reporting on the Budget expenditure, because if not for the use of the Reserves, the land reclamation expenditure may reduce the Budget surplus or even result in a Budget deficit.

After the land is reclaimed and sold to perhaps the highest bidder (including the HDB?), the land sales proceeds are not reported as Budget revenue, but would be considered as Budget revenue under IMF reporting standards.

In other words, we may then be under reporting the Budget surplus.

Impact on NIRC?

Also, the use of the Reserves in this manner may impact the Net Investment Returns Contribution (NIRC) (reduce it?), as I understand that “financial assets’” returns are included in the calculation of the NIRC, but not “state land”. Therefore, this may also have a direct bearing on how much money the Government can spend every year, which affects Singaporeans as well.

The real biggie?

But you know what! The real biggie is that the most important piece of information is missing. How much of the Reserves were used!

Imagine I tell you I took money from the bank 55 times, but never tell you how much I took. If you don’t ask – are you not stupid! Or rather if I didn’t tell you in the first place – Maybe I think that you are stupid enough not to ask?”

Implications of “secret” QE?

The key issue may be that if other developed countries had in effect consistently used “quantitative easing” without disclosure – what do you think will happen when this information becomes public?

NETIZENS OUTRAGED OVER MARBLE SLAB CREAMERY'S "RAMADHAN SPECIAL" BOO BOO

$

Muslim netizens have taken to arms on Facebook by posting pictures of what appears to be a "Ramadhan Special" poster displayed at a Marble Slab Creamery outlet in Bugis.

The netizens who posted these pictures on the Marble Slab Creamery Facebook said that the sign was very misleading to Muslims, who might not be aware that the chain outlets are not Halal certified. Hence, the use of the name Ramadhan to promote its ice cream promotions was both offensive and misleading.

A netizen also wrote that if Marble Slab Creamery does not remove its misleading Ramadhan posters, he would have to report the matter to MUIS and the authorities.

In response, Marble Slab Creamery has issued an apology on its Facebook for the posters which had been put up at their Kallang Wave, Bugis+ and Causeway Point outlets, clarifying that the company did not intend to offend Muslims with its insensitive poster. The company also acknowledged that the poster was insensitive and apologized for their negligence. It confirmed that none of the Marble Slab Creamery outlets are halal certified, although they plan to do so by 2016.

See the full response:

"Dear all,

We have received some feedback and suggestions from the public that our promotion named "Ramadhan Special" at the Kallang Wave, Bugis+ and Causeway Point outlet is misleading to the Muslim community with the use of the word "Ramadhan" because we are not halal certified. We apologize sincerely for this negligence on our part and the bad use of the word. The promotion was done in good faith and was never meant to mislead nor to show any disrespect to the Muslim community, and we are really sorry about the inconvenience. The posters have been taken down with immediate effect. We will also like to clarify that none of our current MSC outlets are halal certified, but it is in our pipeline to do so for 2016. Thanks for your understanding."

THOUSANDS OF CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS TO WEAR WHITE IN OPPOSITION TO PINK DOT

$

0

Christians will be dressed in white this weekend for their church services in support of the traditional family unit, a move that many see as a statement of opposition to the gay-rights themed annual Pink Dot, which takes place tomorrow.

A group of Muslims will likewise wear white when they go to the mosques next week for Ramadan prayers.

According to Muslim religious teacher Noor Deros, he started the Wear White campaign last year as a symbol of "purity" and to signal the community's opposition to homosexuality. He again urged Muslims o wear white on 17th June to mark the first evening prayer of the fasting month of Ramadan.

"It's not a counter-reaction to Pink Dot. Wear White is about returning to fitrah (Arabic for natural) and this year we are focusing on educating Muslims on the concept of freedom and love according to Islam."

Last week, the Singapore Islamic Scholars and Religious Teachers Association put up a statement on its Facebook page to remind Muslims that "Islam has clearly outlined the prohibition of attending any event that supports or approves transgression".

Meanwhile, the Love SIngapore network has asked its 100 or so member churches to encourage their members to wear white for their services over the weekend.

"It's a powerful statement of our belief. The natural family is a universally accepted norm and a public good," says Love Singapore network chairman and Faith Community Baptists Church senior pastor Lawrence Khong.

Last year, over 10,000 congregants attended churches all around Singapore in white. this year, at least 15,000 people from 15 churches are expected to do the same, Mr Khong says. Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) church expects about 3,000 people to turn up in white.

Last year, voluntary welfare organisation Touch Family Services had wanted to hold a "Red Dot Family Moment" event at the Padang, where supporters would wear red on the same day as the Pink Dot picnic on June 28.

But its application to hold the event was rejected. Touch Family Services is a non-profit group under Touch Community Services, whose board Mr Khong chairs.

"Every human being is precious and loved by God and hence we extend our love for all. However, we will continue to stand firm as one to express our support for pro-family values and the preservation of our moral norms for the well-being of our society," says senior pastor Daniel Foo of Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) church.

Pink Dot was first organized in 2009 with about 2,500 attendees. It had a turn out of about about 26,000 last year. Several businesses will be participating in this year's Pink Dot by selling Pink Dot merchandise and giving out freebies along North Canal Road on the day of the event.

LONELY NETIZEN: HDB BROTHELS ARE A MUST OR S'PORE WILL TURN INTO HIGH RAPE ZONE

Dear Editors,

This is dedicated to the moron who contributed the article exposing the HDB brothel in the North. For your information, if these brothels did not exist, I am sure Singapore will have much higher numbers of rape. Surely you do not want that to happen in our country right?

Brothels and prostitution play an important pillar to ensure Singapore is stable and safe. Everyone has needs and these are harmless activities that doesn't hurt anyone. So why you need to go break people's rice bowl?

Some of us are single and cannot find girlfriend. Does it mean we do not deserve to have our needs fulfilled? Can you please think for your fellow single Singaporeans? There is only so much you can do with your right hand, surely you can understand this simple logic?

If the prostitutes never disturb your family and just do their own business, why you go kajiao them for? Just leave them alone. Stop being a busybody and kaypoh. If the brothel openly ask for business at void deck, fine.. then call police to catch... if not give chance lah

HDB brothels are more convenient, I don't need to chiong all the way to Geylang which is so far away from my house. This gives convenience to people. Hope you can understand our difficulties. Not everyone is lucky to have a girlfriend or wife to company them.

NG ENG HEN RUBBISHES ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF NS AND SHORTENING SERVICE DURATIONS

Speaking at an event on Thursday organised by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen spoke about the security-strategic landscape of the region, but also touched on local defence issues, such as the longstanding dispute over National Service duration.

Dr Ng said that besides facilitating bonding between generations of men who go through NS together, he believes the reason why Singaporeans still support NS is because NS fulfills the basic and real need of defending Singapore from external threats.

This is why he is ruling out alternative forms of national service, saying “You cannot bring in somebody for National Service and say, 'Well I'll bring you in and you go and teach children in the schools'.”

"I do not think you have that justification, and that you can get the support, because the question would be 'Well, why don't you hire teachers to do that? Or nurses, or someone else. Why is it that you have the right to take away some time from me?'"

He believes that another factor contributing to Singaporeans' support for NS is the duration of the service, which Dr Ng insists has been kept at a length no longer than necessary.

"If you make it too short, you are diluting the justification for doing it. If you are bringing me in for fewer months, and if something happens to Singapore and you cannot adequately mount a defence for Singapore, then you have wasted generations and years of National Service. You might as well have not done it. If you want to do it, you have to do it properly," he said.

"(But) that is not a justification for a long National Service, and we have over time reduced it because with modernisation and better means, now it is two years - 24 months. For some (it is) slightly shorter, 22 months."

Local Channel 8 actor Chew Chor Meng was eating at a hawker center last month, but met with an unpleasant individual who scolded him for "walking very slow". Chew left the hawker center embarrassed and saddened by the incident.

Feeling indignant for Chew, Chew's wife accidentally let slip to his young daughter that Chew had been harassed at the hawker center.

But her response was heart warming.

"If I walk behind you, then nobody will scold you for walking slowly!"

Chew was diagnosed with Kennedy's disease in 2008, a muscular dystrophy disorder that results in the gradual weakening of muscles in the body which can lead to other complications such as cardiac failure and diabetes.

Chew currently stays at his 3 storey house in Hougang. However, because of his weakening condition, he can no longer climb to the 3rd storey of his home. in Spite of this, Chew tries to climb to the 2nd level of his home everyday so that he can train his strength.

He admits that he has fallen down accidentally several times because his body was tired and felt weak. He thus tries to take extra care of his body and not to push himself too far.
